I am sure I have been doing something this week. It mostly seems to be domestic stuff, and making loose plans.
Senor Onion went to his friend's house on Wednesday. I realized it was the first sort of play-date where the parent picked him up from school, fed him dinner, and I just showed up later to retrieve him. I know Senor Onion is a good kid, he isn't mean in the slightest (but he does get wound up.) but I still told him that he had to be on his best behavior and be a very good guest, because people invite back good guests. NO PRESSURE CHILD. Then I think, well damn, no wonder Senor Onion is a perfectionist, I do pass along this bullshit to him. He was a good guest, and I really like the parents of his friend. When I came to pick him up, I ended up chatting with the parents about minecraft obsessions, they asked me about where I am from, I admired their teeny tiny ancient stone cottage, and thanked them for having Senor Onion. I am definitely telling Senor Onion to invite his friend over sometime soon. He is a very sweet kid, and they play well together. I also think the two of them look amusing together. Senor Onion is tall, dark and elfin-like. His friend is teeny, blonde, and elfin-like and always has this grin on his face like he just pulled off a coup in a foreign country.
My Father in law dropped off a twin mattress yesterday. They are in the midst of down-sizing and this mattress is in very good condition. Senor Onion wanted his bunk bed taken apart, so now we have this extra bed which is more of a daybed/slouchy sofa for the kids to hang out on, and when we have guests, we have more places to put people. I may find some more cushions to put up there. My Father in law also brought me a load of eggs, since their chickens are doing well at the moment. When you have a couple dozen eggs, the only sensible thing to do is make daffodil cake (a variation on angel food, using some of the egg yolks) and lemon curd. There is tea sorted for a day or two. Though I sort of want to make some scones as well. I made a giant double batch of brownies yesterday, and gave half of them to my sister in law. I promised my nephew brownies for finding Miss Biscuit's lego gun, so he should be experiencing a sugar coma.
Tomorrow is Mother's Day in the UK. We won't be doing the usual Sunday lunch thing at my in laws as they are doing a wine tasting weekend, so I am going to roast up a leg of lamb because I like that, and then be a lazy git.
