I came home yesterday. Pretty much everywhere we went the weather was beautiful -even in Paris.
I will write more about everything later.
Yesterday I took the ferry across the channel to Portsmouth before taking a few trains to get home. On the ferry there was a duty-free shop, I had a wander around because that is what you do on a four hour long ferry ride. I came across the perfume my Grandma used to wear. It was an Estee Lauder scent, and to me it is beautiful and comforting. As my Mom would say, "you could always tell when a baby had been held by Grandma." It wasn't like she was wallowing in the scent so that it was uncomfortable to everyone around her, but it was just this definite scent that surrounded her and you never doubted it. I tried a little of that perfume that was very much hers, and it still smelled good. I had my brother smell my wrist and he said, "That's Grandma!"
I was wearing my cardigan tonight when I went to the pub and on a walk with my brother, and my cousin. I went to brush my hair back behind my ear, and the scent was still on the cardigan and it was kind of a split-second homesick moment. Of being about ten years old, and her making angel food cake for birthdays. Feeling sleepy and kind of sick and laying my head down on a table. While she wasn't a warm/cheery sort of person, she massaged my neck, while she sat at the table talking to my Mom, and the scent of her perfume lingered and made things feel better.
