middle class talk about painting and stuff
Jan. 7th, 2015 08:28 pmA house! We own a house. With keys and everything. We got the keys on Monday. We then went to the local appliance place and pointed to things and said, "I will have one of those and one of those. And how about that." Yes I will have a lime green fridge. Then we went and had a look around this empty house that we now own.
We will move in, in a few weeks. My brother in law P. is filling in cracks/holes, painting things, and he even found a window sill that needs a bit of attention. (this is what he does when he isn't taking photos or entertaining his children.) He is a solid sort. My other brother in law will be showing up to do some minor remodeling/decorating in the kitchen. (at least I hope it will be minor.)
The kids have total freedom in declaring how they want their rooms to look. My feeling being, that it is their space, so they should have it as they wish. Even if this means that Miss Biscuit wants pink walls, pink curtains, a pink canopy. She did tell me the other day that the meaning of life is pink, and she lives a pink life. Swords and pink. That is how she lives. If she changes at some point, that is fine. Things can be painted. Senor Onion wants yellow walls, and minecraft. I found some curtains with a pixelated print that are green, a cushion cover that looks a bit like a minecraft block, and some sticker decals for his wall that are... yes... minecraft-related. I hope the kids will be happy.
As for our room, I found a rather pretty blue paint (it's called opening season), and I am thinking of adding wallpaper to one wall as some kind of accent thing. When you enter the bedroom there is a small wall (where the en suite is) and I thought of putting wallpaper there, and then doing wallpaper on the wall opposite, while the rest of the room is painted the deep blue. I am not sure if this will look uneven. The paper looks like this. My vision is that the wall opposite this one has the window, where one would see trees and birds, and then the wall that is papered will be the other side of trees and birds. This could be interesting or a hot mess. But hey let's try something.
Maybe this year I will just try things. Try all the things that are presented to me.
