One of my son's friends came over today. (a bit early for my liking but whatever. They kept each other entertained.) They decided to go on an adventure on their scooter and bike. I had a loose idea of the direction they might go. (that's all I really ask, and that they don't act stupid.) I guess they went down into the valley and were walking along the stream and Senor Onion kind of slipped and fell in but he was all right. It was a rainy-ish day so it wasn't like he was all that dry to begin with. He came home in a pretty cheerful state of mind, even if he was soaked from the knees down. I grabbed up his laundry, and he went and took a bath.
What is kind of cool, is knowing he gets to have some of the same childhood experiences that Mr. Jenner, and I had. That freedom to roam a bit, fall in a stream, get up again, and then make his way home when play-time was done. It's good for him, and probably good for me as well. He gets to have that freedom and my anxiety has to just shut up and deal.

It's a Bank holiday weekend so it is fairly calm in these parts. Tuesday we are keeping the kids out of school as part of a protest against some of the bullshit handed down by the government regarding some of the testing (and how they do it) being done on the kids. It is just one giant pile of fuckery. From start to finish. So instead we are taking the kids on a slightly educational day trip. We will go down to Exeter and do a bit of exploring. We will look at some ruins from the WWII bombings that still remain. (Miss Biscuit has developed an interest in this, so why not see it up close.) Senor Onion who is developing quite an interest in architecture can take in all the different kinds of buildings that are mashed up against one another. Then we will visit RAMM because it looks fun and I can find some things that relate loosely to what Senor Onion is doing in school. Then we might have a poke around at a few shops. (I want to go to a record shop. And maybe the kids can pick out some interesting records to listen to.) And if we are feeling organized we will take the train to Dawlish because Brunel (a person Miss Biscuit is learning about) designed the great western railway -and that is an especially interesting part. There is a nature reserve out there, so we can let them run around a bit and look at birds. A bit of city. A bit of country. A bit of everything. I like a good field trip, and I want to let the kids lead it a bit. They can take pictures, and take it all in.

Then Wednesday it back to school.

I finished writing another piece; which proved to be not that difficult once I actually sat myself down and put in the effort. I just needed to bake a lot of things first as a form of preparation. At least this is my working theory for the moment. I have three more pieces to do, and I should fit them in here and there over the next month.
