lord in heaven
Nov. 10th, 2003 05:55 pmToday I went with my mother to several yarn/knitting shops.
I think about six. It was fun, and there was a brilliance of colors and we had several nice long conversations about all sorts of things. Near the end we both were fading.
So we went to a book store and a doll shop. That perked our spirits up.
Also the side trip to Kid Valley for deep fried mushrooms (heavenly stuff) also helped.
She came over to my place for lunch where we talked shit about people and ate bacon.
What a day.
Miss Gennie is a sleepy sleepy girl.
....
Now I would like to talk about stupid people.
Specifically stupid people who have a problem with nudity in the movies. It seems there are some who didn't care for Love Actually because of the nudity. I guess it didn't register with me. There was some, but it couldn't even be classified as "gratutious". I think it pisses me off that people feel that it ruins a film or that somehow it makes a film a bad thing. I wonder, "what goes on in your mind?"
I see people who let their children see violent films and watch violent television but they are horrified by the notion of their child seeing anything suggestive in the sexual scheme of things. If you think about it that is pretty fucked up.
My mother always felt there was no harm in having a child see nudity. She said it would be a better example to see two people love eachother then to see two people hurt one another. None of my siblings or I have killed anyone yet.
Sure we have been in a few fistfights, but people know by now not to mess with the Gibson clan because we will kick your ass...but that is beside the point. I don't believe anyone us had any harm done to us by seeing a few naked bodies and some people kissing.
Ack...Stop being so damn stupid folks.
...
I am lacking inspiration in the cooking department. I suspect it will be a meat product.

Date: 2003-11-10 06:12 pm (UTC)That is my expert opinion: I spent several years in the theatre biz, and I never ceased to be horrified by all the parents who had no trouble taking their small children to R-rated violent movies, yet were careful to prevent them from seeing even a glimpse of a naked female breast.
Our society is *so* screwed up, and it's not because people ar ehaving too much sex, it's because people are too violent.
Europe has a much more sensible attitude about this: sex good, violence bad. Let's move there, shall we?

Date: 2003-11-10 06:22 pm (UTC)as far as children; it is not necessarily no big deal for a child to see nudity. it's not that the nudity will "harm" the child, but people learn their values from childhood experiences. if you want men to stop objectifing women (now i don't mean apprciating the female form, but feeling that females have no value outside of their physical form) then you need to introduce children to concepts that promote respect of the female and her body.

Date: 2003-11-10 06:25 pm (UTC)You can't just let the kid watch any old damn thing on the television and say, "well I hope you gain some sort of values from this."
You have to kinda make choices about what it is they are exposed to.
But getting one's panties in a bunch because tits are seen briefly on the screen isn't going to help the kid either.

Sounds like my entire childhood. We couldn't watch anything without talking about it.

Date: 2003-11-11 05:43 pm (UTC)I believe it was John "sexy knees" Ashcroft who wanted to cover a statue at the Justice Department because it was a nude woman. Mind you it was done in the neo-classical style so it wasn't like we were being exposed to wide open Paris Hilton style muffin shots. Yet he said it was inappropriate.
That just drives me insane.
