We did pretty much the same, for a similar cost. It was wonderful because so much of our wedding was put together with so much personal love and attention. Re: venue - a local pub/hotel put up a marquee on their lawn, and we used that (wlthough it wasn't put up just for us which cut the cost). Any chance of persuading somewhere local to do likewise? Or, if you have a patch of land big enough, hire the marquee and get in caterers. Needs to be a summer wedding, of course.
