Yesterday, after talk on a message board about sweetened condensed milk I had a craving for seven layer bars. The only thing I could do was make them. Oh so delicious. They are great with coffee or tea. A nap should follow.
Today I am slow cooking this Roman (as in it comes from Rome but it isn't ancient...though it could be. who knows) chicken dish. It makes the house smell rather nice. Garlic and white wine are involved.
I am also making ice cream. It is a bit of an experiment but I think it will turn out well. It is coffee ice cream with streaks of nutella. Because of the amount of milk/cream the flavor makes me think of cappuccino.
Lastly I need to make a cake. I have some egg whites about so I am thinking of making angel food cake.

I have this yen to make pasta. But I might hold off on that for a bit.

That all sounds delicious, as usual. The ice cream is brilliant!

I should pass along the recipe for homemmade Twix bars- it's so midwestern and awesome.
The crust/innards are bascially Club crackers.

Oooh email me the recipe.
You should take some of these seven layer bars off of my hands.

I started to yen so I counted to ten

...then I staretd to yen again!

Holy crap I do love seven layer bars. If the chicken comes out well, please post the recipe!

Oh Judy....

The chicken turned out fairly well. It is kind of like a stew so I served it over a bed of polenta.

You and J. should make some seven layer bars.

My mother used to put sweetened condensed milk on my pacifier. Now I cant have a can of it in the house or I will eat it all in one sitting.

My mum confesses she used it as my brother's sole source of milk after she got mastitis! No wonder he grew up slightly insane...

God, that ice cream sounds nice. And I have no idea what 7 layer bars are, but boy, they sound good too. It is a very good thing you do not live nearby me.

The ice cream isn't too bad. though I can definitely tell that I used more milk than cream. Not quite as creamy.

Seven layer bars: you melt a stick of butter in a 9x13 inch pan and then you sprinkle graham cracker crumbs all over and press that down. (the butter and crumbs make a quick crust) Then you evenly pour a can of condensed sweetened milk all over that. After that you sprinkle chocolate morsels on top of that, then butterscotch morsels. Because it doesn't seem decadent enough you sprinkle shredded coconut on top of that. (the sweetened stuff) Finally you sprinkle chopped walnuts or pecans on top and you press all of that down with your hands.
Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

Sickly sweet stuff.

I think this may be knowledge I'd be safer not having learned.

I rarely make it because it is awfully sweet. But once in a great while it soothes a person.
