I had strange dreams last night. There was an epic one involving a house that was built like a ship so it could withstand floods. It was built by a man who was naval captain (I think?) and he wanted to be prepared for any eventuality. Did I mention this was all in the 19th century? He was good to his daughters and horrible to his wife and he was considered a bit of a social climber and "new money" but he didn't seem to care. I am not sure how I came to be stuck on this "house boat" (though it looked more like Castle Howard than a house and twice as gaudy) and it was raining and raining and flooding and we kept picking up people along the way who were caught in trees. I think I was a cook. I kept finding oysters, prawns and fish in the oddest places and Half of the time when I would open an oyster, pearls would come tumbling out. I also had seaweed stuck in my hair half of the time. I was cooking everything up and serving it to various people. Some were men who had enormous mutton chops. As I woke up I think we were heading toward the remains of the Canary Islands.

This morning I went to open up a new jar of jam and we are near the end of the two batches I made last year. Not bad I say... I hope I can make some more this year. Maybe try something different.

email is down, so i just wanted to tell you--while the british cookbook has a marmalade recipe, it's the old-fashioned kind where you do sugar cup-for-cup(for every cup fruit, one cup sugar. a little sweet). but yes, you could certainly do blood-orange marmalade(it sounds like something out of agatha christie). i would check the ball's low sugar pectin recipe sheet, i think there is a basic marmalade on there. call me if you want further elucidation.
dont do lime marmalade. i tried it once. not good.
