so um...well, there is this person who is close to a number of my friends and I had the pleasure of meeting her on her birthday.
sadly, due to a lot of medical problems and complications, she died tonight.

"Sorry" or wishes of condolences never seem to be adequate in my mind. They feel hollow and empty when they come out of my mouth, especially in light of such terrible, sorrowful events. It's like when you lift your fist to the clouds overhead as it rains. But perhaps when we see someone else doing the same thing as us, reinacting something we ourselves sometimes find inadequate, maybe we understand we all come from the same place, and feel the same thing. And in that, we find some degree of comfort, if but for a short while.
