Apparently it was a day for getting things done. We somehow had all this motivation. Well maybe it was part motivation and part deadline.
We cleared the basement out. This has been waiting to be done since we moved into the house over three years ago. (we got distracted. Yes. Three years of distractions)
We moved boxes to the crawl-space, put old baby things away and so on.
Walls have been measured, for tomorrow paint will be bought and walls... funny enough will be painted.
There is more to be done.
But I think Mr. Jenner will have a rather swank office. How many people have a fireplace in their office?
I thought so.
Suddenly we are taking a genuine interest in the house I suppose.

Tomorrow I am meeting up with my Mother. I suspect there will be snark and swearing. Which is good.

That sounds like the perfect office. Are you painting the walls a deep burgundy and putting in a floor-to-ceiling library on one wall?

Alas, we are painting the walls a creamy buttery yellowish color as the room is a bit dark and kind of low-ceiling so any extra bit of spaciousness helps.
The burgundy will be for study/library of our dreams. We saw this library/study on this show Find! hosted by those Keno brothers from Antiques Roadshow and it is kind of what we hope to aspire to one day. Floor to ceiling books, dark woods, comfy club chairs and interesting things like maps, globes and things from far off places.

But for now we will start with a fireplace, an ugly sofa and some maps and things from far off places.

Oh I love buttercream walls.
Your dream study-library sounds like mine but with maps. I like it.

I am glad you asked. Coffered ceilings are a must. Mahogany is my first choice for wood. This would all be of course in my large reproduction French Château style house.

I want the cozy 'world-traveller' vibe of this:

But with darker wood and varied light sources, like this:

(only smaller, much)

And interesting furniture/paint colors, like this:

(the grandfather clock is a must too)

I wouldn't mind hand-carved molded shelves with lights in them either. Like this:

(Huntington Library)

I do like your idea of maps. That way the library can be converted into a War Room if need be.

Your library sounds a lot like my library.
We will have to hang out in eachother's libraries.
