my question
Mar. 16th, 2008 08:39 amMy brother called me yesterday and he had fallen down a flight of stairs at his new job.
He couldn't quite lift his arm and his shoulder hurt a great deal. He ended up with a minor fracture. (he was incredibly lucky in the grand scheme of things)
The crappier aspect is that like most bar jobs in New York (and bar jobs in general) he is being paid under the table so he didn't file an accident report and being a po' actor he has no health insurance.
Ouch you say. Ouch I say.
Right now his arm is in a sling and he can still do most things. My Mom and I are grateful that he has a girlfriend to keep an eye on him. My Mom worries like crazy about him. She called me yesterday and said, "Why does he do this kind of thing?" I admit Tom kind of has a history of injuring himself. I think every Mom has one kid who ends up on first name basis with many doctors and nurses.
I did point that Tom has so far survived New York rather well and she must remember this is the same guy who was mugged and then chased down his mugger (with the help of some big black dudes in the neighborhood who were always game for some excitement) and got his stuff back.
Still.
Oy. Vey.
As for myself and the population at Chez Anglo-America we finished the painting (thank goodness) and we bought appropriate office furniture from the Swedish Mafia. They even delivered. Things have been moved to and fro. We now have some space on various bookshelves again and here is an exciting chance to reorganize the books. Weeee!
The next project is to paint the once and future guest room, change one set of blinds in there and move furniture around.
I wish I had something of significance to say. I don't. Instead I have this small person climbing all over me and throwing the most hilarious tantrums when things don't go his way.
Is it too early to drink?
update: My brother's boss is likely to pay for half if not all of his medical expenses. I suppose they felt like they had to since my brother showed up to work a few hours after getting fixed by the doctor. So it shows dedication.
