I am a little distracted because I am making soup and herding rabbits.
But let me share a couple of things.

I have been summoned for Jury Duty. Most people feel irritated by being called to do their civic duty (and to some degree I can understand) but I am rather amused and excited. I was once called for jury duty when I was 19. But I was living at home and I was excused because I knew a couple of cops fairly well. (one was my friend's older brother) It is hard in a small town to cobble a jury together as everyone knows everyone else and they usually know everyones business. "Oh yeah... he totally did it. I remember when he was bothering kids on the playground when we were in school. Total bastard."
"Um...that is the judge."
"Yeah. I know."

So. I get called. I'm gonna bring my mp3 player and a good book or two. I plan on getting some reading done because I understand this stuff can take awhile. If I am called to be a peer and judge someone, I will share the juicy details about my fellow jurors and their weird habits. I promise nicknames too. "Ol' lazy eye" and "manic libertarian".

And if you are a fan of Andrew W.K. and/or the McLaughlin Group you ought to watch this. It will amuse and divert. I promise.

Jury duty downtown or do you have to go the one down south?

Well, that certainly helps. I didn't mind jury duty downtown too much. A group of us actually went out and had lunch together. (We were selected for a jury pool, so we talked while waiting. In the end, the case was settled, so we didn't have to actually be on a jury.)

It isn't such an unpleasant drive. Plus if I end up getting out early I can go to Salumi or something.

it's really actually not too bad at the downtown place- plus free computer/internet time! And there's lots of lunch places about down there as well.

I got a lot of knitting done.

omg i love andrew wk thanks for the amusement. i worked at {evil music corporation} when his 1st album came out and i would blare it in my office and ROCK OUT! i had SO MUCH FUN at his show at the bowery ballroom for that album. it was just pure rock and roll fun - lots of dancing and sweating. his song I LOVE NEW YORK CITY rules. rules rules rules.

i always have to change the channel when i try to watch the mclauglin group due to the incessant arguing and absurdity.

oh and i served grand jury duty for 2 weeks in brooklyn once. that was an experience let me tell you.

i am supposing you are too smart to be chosen for any jury. :)

I am glad you enjoyed that. I know you are a keen fan and there is something so delightful about all of that. I think "I Love New York City" is incredibly awesome.

I think I might be too mouthy to be on a jury.

I wouldn't mind jury duty if they wanted me to only go downtown. Last time they tried, they sent me a one-way bus ticket for too little money to get there and wanted me in Kent by 8am when I was living outside of King county. I laughed loudly at them for their belief in possibility and physics, and hung up the phone.

But if it was downtown, I'd totally dig it. But only if it was a highly scandalous, gore and debauchery-ridden tale of woe and treachery.

Yeah. If they wanted me to go to Kent I might have to respectfully decline.
This isn't a bad situation and I think the crimes might be a little more amusing.

Hah, the lawyers involved make up names for the jurors, too. :p You, I'm sure, will be "Sophisticated lady" or something to that effect! Good luck!!

I think I will be, "unbearably snarky lady".

I have jury duty in about 11 days. It's my first time, and I'm also quite excited about it. Although I am guessing if I do get empaneled I'll get excluded once they see I have a law degree. Generally lawyers want to keep people with legal training off juries because they tend to be REALLY hard to convince that there is no reasonable doubt of guilt. Plus they worry in a jury room, a lawyer will try to sway people to their point of view.

My plan also included my iPod and a couple of trashy romance novels so that I don't get terrible bored while I wait. The worst part is that I have to go to Holyoke, and there tends to be more crime there. I really don't want my car stolen.

Alright, Jury Duty twins!!!! FTW.
Yeah. I somehow suspect I won't get picked. I am too snarky.

I didn't mind jury duty, either. I rather enjoyed sitting around in a courtroom, reading.

I was called to be part of a jury pool, but wasn't picked for the jury. I did get to see the lawyers question potential jurors, whcih was neat.
