What the heck weather gods?????
Today they said, "rain mixed with snow." I am familiar with that mix. I can handle that mix. My family came over today and it started to snow. "okay...hopefully it won't stick."
It turned into "Snow mixed with more snow and then some more snow that sticks to the frozen ground and turns things into a damn ice-skating rink."
I had picked up my family from the ferry and I was going to drop them off. I will be honest driving in the snow scares the ever living crap out of me. Plus Mr. Jenner is out of town so I had to bring Senor Onion with me. I carefully drove down to the ferry, (my mom gave me some good tips for driving. She was a voice of calm) and my brother decided to stay overnight and add some weight to the car. Bless him.
A lot.
What is normally a 10-15 minute drive home turned into a 45 minute white-knuckle adventure. I took Jackson as it was the least steep way back. But then I saw big trucks getting stuck. So I took 12th as it is a gradual uphill drive. I tried to turn on Cherry and about half-way up my car said, "ohlikehell" and my brother is wearing his slippery hip shoes and is trying to help push the car. I did a u-turn and thought, "okay there has to be a better way to do this." So I continued up 12th until Madison where there is still plenty of sand on the roads and it was well-worn. Once I got up madison it was an easy drive the rest of the way home. The Grand battle is to get to the top of the hill. And oh how is is snowing. Big scary blobs of snow. Snow that will hunt down your young and eat it for breakfast. I want to give points to my son for being absolutely calm while his Mother was doing her best to not have a nervous breakdown.
I am not leaving the house until this evil white stuff is gone. GONE.
But I am very very proud of myself for being cool on the outside and just driving carefully and following my Mother's advice. Now I hope she gets home safe.
And weathermen? WTF? WTF?

Other than that adventure in high blood pressure I had a lovely visit with the family. There were presents (I came away with so many books it is obscene) and there was Christmas cake, tea and snark. I am sorry Mr. Jenner wasn't there. He always enjoys the fun too.

I need a drink

What an adventure you had, and Senior Onion--not a blink it seems.
I have been playing phone tag with someone for an item on Craigslist and he called tonight to see if we want to drive to Seatac, saying it is too hard for them to get out of there to meet halfway. Does he really think it would be easy for me to get in and out of there? yeesh. And this after days of his stalling on us meeting him to get it.

I need a drink too.

Tonight my extended family all gathered to celebrate the Christmas Eve That Wasn't. You know, the Christmas Eve that was called off on account of SNOW? Hahahahahahahaha. Well, tonight we had to leave early because of SNOW.

WE ARE NOT AMUSED.

Well, we are, a little bit. I mean, come on. It's so ridiculous.

I'm fed up with this snow. It's been snowing and sticking all afternoon here and our weather service just issued a "snowfall warning" at 730pm. They still say it's gonna change to rain after midnight. I'm not holding my breath.

It ticks me off because our city seems too busy finding their asses to do anything or come up with some kind of emergency plan.
*grumps for awhile*

Yeah it hit us up here too - I think it's just twirling down the coast. I hate snow :-(

Snow has lost its allure.

Yes, it's posts like this that make me happy all over again that all I have to deal with in terms of winter is maybe putting on a sweatshirt and socks and sitting a little closer to the heater to combat the elements. I would curl up and die if I had to deal with snow, I'm sure of it.

I like snow in short bursts once a year. It is great that way. But this? This is just silly.
Though I made waffles for my son and I this morning and we enjoyed them while looking at the snow.

Word @ sexwithpenguins.

Do you have snow chains for the car? They make a huge difference (and a huge row). Of course, getting the darned things on can be quite an adventure :-)

No. We do not. We aren't that clever. I contemplate it. Maybe next year.

I remember that there are some snazzy (i.e. expensive) models which snap on very easily: probably a good investment. The ones I had involved laying out the chain around the wheel then hooking it up behind and in front of the tyre: a messy, cold and difficult job wearing gloves - and the weather conditions you typically have when doing it make it doubly challenging. But having a set in the boot is good for peace of mind.

I like to think of driving in the snow like driving a boat. You can't stop fast or turn fast or start fast. You just guide and glide.

Yeah I took that approach and we got home safe. But still -scary.

It is melting so that is a plus.

oh I feel for you. I white Knuckle drive all winter long. I do spend a lot less money on shopping that way though.
I am at the point where I think that taking the bus is a lot safer for me (and for others) than me attempting to drive to work.

So I suppose it is a positive to the snow. It makes you think twice about what you buy.

Thank goodness, Senor Onion remained calm. I can't even imagine how stressful that would have been if he'd be squawking. Does he squawk?

On occasion yes. And when you are driving it is the worst. Makes my ass clench. (so hey good for building muscles but it hurts the stomach too)

Gosh, I've been praying for SOME form of cold weather in the south. It's hot and humid with highs in the 50-60's. I'm almost jealous of the snow, send us some!

(Also I'm adding you, hope you don't mind! :)

Snow in well-contained places is fine. I can go and visit it and then go home. but when it gets out of control? It bothers me.
