A bit of everything.

Esme passed on in the middle of the night. When I saw her this morning she looked very peaceful and comfortable. When I was checking on her last night, she was fairly comfortable but obviously it wasn't a super fun time for her. I stroked her ears and said good night. I am not super sad about all of it. I am mostly glad that she is okay now. It is kind of funny that she died when she did. It seems that last night my Mother had an interesting surprise. She has a pair of bunnies she got last Summer. Peaches and Pickles. They had been sexed and it appeared that they were both girls. Yes. Well. Someone was hiding something. They found that Pickles was a boy and is now the proud Father of two baby bunnies. Good lord. Circle of Life. I told my Mother she forgot to leave out a pamphlet on the pre-cautionary arts. But Bunnies aren't very good at reading I understand.
In non-rabbit related talk, I did some gardening yesterday. I finally built a bed for the potatoes I needed to plant. And then I planted the potatoes. Three varieties; yukon gold, german butterball and mountain rose. I have a real weakness for german butterball potatoes. They have excellent flavor and are a lovely shade of yellow. They are terrific mashers and roast so well. (especially in goose fat) I chose the mountain rose (a slightly reddish pink potato) just because the name sounded fun.
I stopped at the neighborhood nursery and they were having a sale! So I ended up buying some more onion starters and some fennel. (and some more soil, some planters and a few other things.) So the onion starters have been planted, as well as some other onion seedlings I grew in the kitchen. The Fennel is living in the herb bed. I even managed to weed a bit of the strawberry bed. Progress is being made. I have to wait awhile to plant some other things as the soil temps. take awhile to warm up.
I harvested some more oregano to dry. I have to keep up with that. I suspect the plant may take over the world. I transplanted the tomatoes to larger pots. Again it will be awhile before I can put those in the ground. But they are coming along.
Made some brownies last night. I think I might make a marlborough pie today to use up some applesauce I made last Fall. Maybe we will have gnocchi and caeser salad for dinner. We have anchovies and I like making the dressing for the salad. Coddled eggs for the win! I tried the yogurt I made. It isn't bad, but I think it needs some work. More experimentation. Definitely will try whole milk next time. The 2% wasn't bad. And it was awfully good with home-made jam. Maybe pair it with the Danish cherry sauce my Mom makes.
My life boils down to inane projects to keep my hands/mind busy. At least I accomplish things when I am pregnant. I want to replace this one bookshelf in our living room with something much larger so that I can also store some toys there as well. Time to research. It is the unshakable belief I have bought into that if I have storage solutions; then my life will be beautiful. Is it the new religion? Or maybe the Shakers were onto something. Those people really honed storage solutions into a terrific spiritual belief. (they were also the first people to work the idea of a mail-order seed business. So they weren't dummies. Except for the part about sex. But we can't have everything can we?)
Enough blithering. I should go and put bread onto rise.

I am in accordance with this. This past week, I bought three storage boxes with lids and on rollers to fit under my bed because I needed somewhere to put my Brownie paraphenalia that I could access easily, my cookery books, and some DVD's. I just wish I was properly able to expand my bookshelves to sort out my books. If I ever manage to afford my own house, one room will be a dedicated library with a view to extending when the time comes. *dreams happily*
I'm also getting back into making my own yoghurt. I used to make it a few years ago when I was on this specific diet trying to manage my crohns symptoms and it was quite tasty. There's just too much extra bits in yoghurts for my liking. I'm trying to keep what bit of intestine I have left ticking for another while. I've been looking for gnoochi in our local supermarkets but amn't having much luck so far.
