money, family and genetics.

We may have to replace our balcony sooner rather than later. Mr. Jenner stepped out on the balcony off of our bedroom tonight and a plank broke and his foot went right through. He caught himself in time and it was a bit alarming. The mood was lightened a bit by Senor Onion laughing and saying, "Daddy broke the house."
Glad that Daddy could provide such quality entertainment.
Of course the replacement of said balcony requires things like money. Money seems to ruin the fun at times.
My friend Sarah sent me a copy of Wishful Drinking by Carrie Fisher. It is a brief little book but it is awfully funny. She has such an entertainingly warped sense of humor about her family and her life. I think I like how she gets along rather well with her Mother and accepts her Mother's particular brand of eccentricity just as something that is. Despite Fisher's mental illness, she has a good sense of forgiveness and acceptance of humans and their irrational ways. (like her Father in particular.)
She seems like someone who would be a lot of fun over coffee. She would get my own macabre sense of humor about my Father and my family's attitude about a lot of things.
When my parents divorced, as some know, my siblings and I decided to tell people that we each had different Fathers and we made up these elaborate stories about our paternity. At the time some people thought we were in denial about how awful things were or something. Really it was either giggle and make up funny stories or cry into our tea. What would you rather do? Okay so it is kind of a difficult lie to pull off as my siblings and I look very much alike and we each have features that very much show that we look like our Father.
My Mother always said that half the appeal of my Father was his bone structure. My Mom is kind of easy like that. she would constantly say to my sister and I when we were growing up, "Marry a man with a strong chin. You don't want to have chinless children." When my Mother first met our Father, he had long dark curly hair (which I inherited) very sharp cheek-bones (you can definitely see that in my brother Tom) a small nose and a strong chin.
I have my Father's nose. There is no denying that one. While he wasn't much as a human, I do thank him for the nose. It has served me well.
Anyhow...
My sister is here visiting for a few days. We have plans and what not. Senor Onion is excited that she is here. He was telling me this morning that Kiki was coming to visit. He likes to point out her lap top and tell her where to sit.
Strawberries are ripe in the garden. Yum. They are large and red. We just have to fight my kid for them. I wish I could gather enough at one time for a cake but I suspect this may not happen. But hey the garden is proving to be a good place to graze.

Date: 2009-06-25 06:45 am (UTC)We have one almost-ripe strawberry. Flo has her eye on it already. As an infant she used to pick them and eat them when they were still green. She is learning patience.

Date: 2009-06-25 04:15 pm (UTC)We have had some discussions with Senor Onion about not eating the green strawberries. It hasn't quite sunk in yet.

(Though since you pretty much seem like the perfect wife and mother, I can't imagine a situation when you'd need to use it.)

My mom once said that, given the choice between laughing and crying, laughing is always the better option.
She's right.
