It seems like a weekend where there were bursts of activity and a fair amount of relaxing in between. I really cleaned my kitchen yesterday morning and went organized a few things. It helped that Senor Onion and Mr. Jenner went out swimming for a bit so I didn't have someone trying to "help" me. Goodness Senor Onion loves to help. He wants to help make all the meals and everything in between. He is very good at putting bread in the toaster and pushing down the lever. He is terrific at getting things out of the fridge. (though he puts everything back on the lower shelves as he is a short person.) And so on.
The kitchen is in a slight state at the moment as I need to put a few things in the dishwasher and finish cleaning/prepping the rest of the garlic to be cured. The guest room smells of garlic as it is a reliably warm/dry room in which to dry things. Yesterday I took nearly a whole head of fresh garlic and used it to make pesto. It should be pretty intense. Some of it I froze for later use and some of it is in the fridge for weekly use.
It was rather warm yesterday. It became humid in the late afternoon with some thunder and lightning in the evening which I enjoyed. The weather was reasonable enough for us to grill burgers and corn on the bbq.

I ordered a friend's wedding gift. I am sending her a nice cake pan for making brownies. I think brownies help to make a good marriage. Or at least make it more enjoyable. I think I may also get the nice couple something else. I am thinking about that.

Today it is dark and raining. (helps make watering the plants less of a chore!)
This morning I made a lovely batch of loganberry jam. Jam-making has become such a stream-lined process that it can often just take an hour to do everything. I do admit to doing small batches of things because I like a variety of things in the cupboard all Fall/Winter long.
I had a good look at some of the pickling cukes today. I should have enough to make relish this week. I have never made it before but it doesn't seem too difficult and I like the idea of having home-made relish on hamburgers or hotdogs. My Mother and sister are picking pie-cherries off of their trees. I hope to get a few jars of my Mom's cherry jam. (that is good stuff)

The chocolate salon was today. (a few people asked if I was going) I love chocolate. A lot. But I admit I just don't have the enthusiasm for the event. I wasn't keen on the idea of significant crowds. (the cheese festival is like this and it just leaves a person a little overwhelmed and tired) My other irritation has more to do with me. So for twenty bucks you can eat tons and tons of samples, which is freaking fabulous. I can get behind that kind of gluttony. Yet in my current state, I feel full and uncomfortable if I eat a piece of toast. I can't even drink my tea like a normal person these days because I end up feeling full and bloaty, so I end up drinking cold tea as I slowly sip it. (these are the laments of a woman with a kid filling up every single inch of space in her body) Le sigh. First world problems and whatever.

We are going to reupholster the dining room chairs. They need it. They are falling apart. (the cushion part) We are looking at fabric. There are a few things that catch my eye but I am incredibly wowed by the amount of ugly decorating fabric out there. It is like there is this on-going contest by textile designers to see who can come up with the most atrocious stuff known to man. Maybe they are hiring color-blind people with a sick sense of humor. I am not asking for anything amazing. I think my favorite part is how some of the truly ooogly stuff is so expensive. (this really confirms my suspicions that this is some sort of in-joke among designers.) But then the same could be said for curtain designers. Maybe it is nesting syndrome. I want to replace the blah valance in the kitchen. I will worry about that later.

I'm having a hard time getting past the sentence in this post where you say you used the time your husband took your kid out swimming to ...clean the kitchen. You are hard core, missy!

You can freeze garlic? Wow!

As for the cleaning, I totally understand that. I think now I like to get some stuff done when others are playing with BD because I don't have a teeny-tiny helper "organizing" stuff for me.

You can freeze all kinds of things. You can freeze ginger!

I am just trying to get the house in order before I go to ignore it for a few months. *snorts*
