state of the uterus

I went to my pre-natal appt and it was a laugh riot as always. They have A/C. I thought about moving in for the duration of the heatwave. "don't mind her, she is just pregnant."
I am about 1 cm dilated. Always good news.
Then it got interesting.
dum-de-dum, heartbeat is great as always. Then she went to measure me and it seems I was measuring a little on the small side of things and she couldn't quite make out if the baby had turned. My provider also wanted to make sure that the right amount of amniotic fluid was in there. So I got to have an ultrasound. FUN! Nothing like some cold goop on the tum. It seems that one Ms. Baby Biscuit is footed breach. Her head is up near my lungs and yes I was right, she is kicking me in the cervix. And hey there is enough amniotic fluid in there so no worries on that front. But there is a little bit of interest about getting proper measurements. And getting Ms Fancypants turned the right way.
Yes. Well.
So next week I go in and they will try manually turning her. I will also do what I can in the mean time to get her to think down thoughts. (various positions and whatever) Likely she will turn, but in the event that she decides that she is stubborn and does not want to cooperate we will discuss our options. (a possible c-section at full-term and so on.) I would really like to avoid a c-section if I can help it. So let's think positive thoughts about the baby wanting to move and get into place.
Oh and my provider said, "yeah you had a pretty short labor last time, so it is likely this one could be equally short, so be prepared for that. And you had a pretty big baby too, so that is another thing to gear up for, but you should be able to deliver just fine as you did before." That's right folks. I deliver them BIG.
My Mother who likes a project is saying a novena that the baby will turn. It keeps her busy.

Date: 2009-07-29 08:02 am (UTC)I hope you do get to avoid a C section. Having done both, I'd say that natural is infinitely better. But I think you know that ;-)

Date: 2009-07-29 03:39 pm (UTC)I would prefer delivering vaginally just because the recovery time is quicker. I have good hopes though. If I can deliver a nearly ten pound baby than this should be a snap no matter which way it goes.

Date: 2009-07-29 10:33 am (UTC)May I offer the services of one Puppy Meg? She is quite adept at walking on people's abdomens; size matters not to her. Last night (I slept on the couch in the front room with the dogs because we have visitors) before she settled down to sleep, she managed to walk on me in such a fashion that I woke this morning to find my ostomy bag had leaked a little. I thought it was stuck on tight but she managed to jiggle it in such a way that it lifted. She might be useful to you in this situation. Just a suggestion. ;-)

Date: 2009-07-29 03:36 pm (UTC)Larry's mom always laughs and says Larry was reading a book in her uterus, just like he did every minute once he came out. (He was breach, and she had a C-section. But those were the dark ages, or so we hope.)
Good luck!!!!!!!

Date: 2009-07-29 03:42 pm (UTC)We have time to encourage/wait for the baby to turn. There are a number of things I can try in the mean time. (acupuncture, various exercises, wishful thinking) Plus many decide to do it at the last minute. We are just playing it cool. I think more of the concern is about whether she is measuring right.

I almost fell out of my chair laughing. And then I started to cry. That is what good catholic parents do; sounds exactly like something my father would do, and did, on so many different occasions ;-)
As for the kidlet, Brat child was feet first and we were able to flip him. Good luck!
