I have been awake since 4am. I am kind of riding on the high/mania of sleep deprivation that comes with having a brand new baby.
I did a lot of baking today. Senor Onion and I made brownies while Miss Biscuit had a nap. Later on while Senor Onion was supposed to be napping, I made some oatmeal apple cookies. I also made a bolognese sauce which cooked all day long. Some was served up for dinner and some was put in the freezer for future use. And because I didn't feel like I had accomplished enough today (you may snort now if you like) I baked a lemon meringue pie. That was for Mr. Jenner. A sort of thank you for all his good efforts as of late. I also did some laundry... But that was diaper-related.

Senor Onion was painting while I was making his lunch. He was repeating, "I am painting a horse." and I thought, "how nice." Then I turned around and saw that he was actually painting his horsie ride toy. He had taken my pastry brushes and dipped them into his poster paints. His horse was now blue! I couldn't really freak out. I was mostly amused. I told him that he had to hand over the brushes as they weren't meant for that and that his horse needed to go outside for a bath. Then I gave him his lunch. There are moments when you just can't really freak out. I made sure to give him hugs and kisses and squeezes tonight. I love my crazy kid.

Miss Biscuit is in many ways the easier one to care for right now. I am still getting to know her and figure her out. She is equal parts calm and demanding like many babies. "FEED ME NOW" "HOLD ME NOW". Having a girl is different. I can say that I love her to bits. My Mom told me that all of her cousins are tickled that I chose Fern as one of her middle names. She is already referred to as Fernie-girl by them. I come from a family where everyone seems to be referred to by a pet-name that will last well into adulthood if you aren't careful. There are suspicions that this Fernie-girl will be like her name-sake. Spirited is what we say.

Now to lie in the bath and make myself relax for a few minutes.

I suppose second babies are a little easier to handle. The world doesn't quite turn upside down like it does with the first.

I love the horse story. That sounds like some situations I've had with BD. Biggest lesson I've learned: "When the toddlers are quiet. Worry. That's when the trouble happens."

Even if it is quiet for a few seconds, I get nervous.
