food processor of fun

This is for [livejournal.com profile] epiphany who is being called by the sexy siren that is a food processor. I hope this gives you an idea of the size and entertainment value that is the 11 cup cuisinart food processor. I just used mine to make some dough for a berry cobbler. Yeah dessert is a wild affair in our house.

I bought some pork loin this weekend from the amazing local butcher. I took half of it and pounded the ever loving shit out of it so I can make schnitzel. It is a good way to work out any aggression. A good cast iron skillet and pent up emotions and some meat. the other half of the pork loin is marinating and will be cooked up in some fashion tomorrow. As for tonight there will be Finnish style of schnitzel, scalloped potatoes (need to use up some cream lingering in the fridge) and a spinach salad. Plus the above mentioned cobbler.

OMG CHILD STOP BOUNCING ON THE MOTHERFUCKING SOFA.

Look at the sharp, sharp knives positioned together like murderous daggers.

I tell you, I've been trying for years to make up the architectural floor plan of your house (split level?) in my brain and this photograph has just shattered everything I ever believed. Unless that yellow siding is your shed and not your neighbor's house. I would benefit greatly from exterior photos. Please try to fit this in to your schedule between dominoes and cobbler.

I like to show off my arsenal of evil.

It is the house next door. Houses are pretty close together in these parts. So you get used to seeing people going about their day. I will have to take some pictures soon. We are likely painting this Summer.

I miss my Slovakian roommate and her schnitzels.

They are pretty easy to make. You should try sometime. Imagine the fun in pretending to smash the face of anyone that angers you. Only it is meat.

Slick cuisinart.

Did you get a pork loin or a pork tenderloin? I saw you mention both elsewhere so was confused.

Thanks!

Pardon... pork tenderloin.

Have you ever been to a "Wear 'Em Out" type event? ("Wear 'Em Out" is at the Northgate Community Center. At some point, I saw a list of the same type activity at other community centers, but I can't find it now.) It may be even more frustrating to be surrounded by hyper toddlers than to just have the one at home, but I thought I'd mention it...

Oh wait, here's a list: http://www.cityofseattle.net/parks/Children/play.htm Although they aren't clear if you need any kind of registration or if there's a fee.

He would just get more hyper. haha
I take him to the playground and OMG in the Fall he is off to preschool three days a week. He is normally pretty good but yesterday was... crazy man day.

Pounding inanimate things to relese tension is a great pastime. I think in my teens, what saved me from going spare was having a room in the cellar filled with firewood. Chopping wood while imagining teachers and bullies on the block is immensely satisfying.

And kitchen gadgets are immensely satifying. Though I must admit I gave away our food processor to SiL, as I never used it. I have an awesoe blender, though. :-) And I totally love your shnapps glasses. Plus yay for knife magnet, I cringe when I find knives in drawers with other stuff. Those same people who keep their knives in drawers actually complain that ours are too sharp. Imagine that. How can a knife be *too* sharp?

The glasses were a gift from a wonderful friend. I love how the glasses make a rainbow on a sunny day.

My knives could be sharper. I am not always good about sharpening them.

Thank you!

I'm thinking I could probably get a smaller one and be okay, but I still don't think I'm going to know what's what until I get out there and look at them all myself.

So that's sturdy enough to make dough? That's one tough food processor!

You are welcome.
Definitely check them out in person and talk to the people in a kitchen store. They can often offer a lot of good thoughts.

This food processor can do a lot. I put it through a serious work-out every week. It makes some of the best pie dough, pesto, puree for sorbets and so on.

I love that food processor! The one I've had for years is a bit unwieldy and awakward so it spends a lot of time in the cupboard. If I ever get a bit of money again, I'm going to try and find something more compact.

please tell me that you know of a gadget that is a blender AND a food processor with a respectably sized bowl. i do not think i am asking too much to have one of these exist.

Probably the closest (and of course the most expensive) would be the vita-mix. It is large and in charge.

oh lord. i saw one of those things at the whole foods demo table this morning. you were not kidding when you said it's large. i had no idea.

i'm not sure if i'm buying into the whole broken-cell-wall business. that smells funny to me.

My other suggestion would be if you wanted something with some oomph but if you didn't want to invest in a cadillac -try out an Oster professional series. (with the glass container) Oster is a heavy-duty and will LAST. For awhile I owned my late Grandma's Oster blender. It was built in the sixties and dang it was hard-core. I passed it on to my Mom since she needed a blender and I rarely used it. All it needed was the rubber ring replaced and it was ready to puree.

You can also get different blades for it. Including one for crushing ice.
