fresh sweet air

The ever super amazing Mr. Jenner rubbed my back/neck. He is a good man. It hasn't been an awful day but it has been one of those days where by cocktail hour one is slouching.
Children were up bright and early and in the mood to harass their nice parents. Breakfast was had, people were dressed, things were being tidied -all while holding a monkey baby. Miss Biscuit is all right and is improving (a quick chat with a nurse on the phone made that pretty clear. She has a fever and a few other unpleasant things but eats/nurses well and is rather cheerful.) but still wants to be held all the live long day. Naps were a bit of a trial. She needs the sleep and she wants the rest but it is difficult. I nearly had her asleep and happy when Senor Onion showed up on the scene to display some typical toddler attitude. "I want blueberries. NOW!" "wait a couple of minutes. go play with such and such and then I will come out." "NOOOOOOOOOOO I want BLUEBERRIES NOW MUMMY." I mentally think, "and the horse you came in on." I kept my cool. I really did. It was a point of pride. I got things taken care of. Baby asleep, child calmed and learning lessons in not being such a twit to his Mother.
More freaking tidying. Always the tidying. Today I was vacuuming while holding a baby. I washed some dishes one-handed while holding a baby. It wasn't all "Calgon take me away".
I prepped things so I can churn some riso gelato tomorrow. The mixture is chilling in the fridge. I am keen to see how this works out. I think it will be good. I will take pictures and so on.
The garden is looking pretty decent and benefiting from all of the rain. I know plenty of people around here moan about the rain but one has to look at the long-term. It means that we won't be facing drought conditions this Summer; as reservoirs will have plenty of water. It means that it is more likely that locally grown crops will do well. (which can often mean lower prices on certain goods) It means the air is clean and there isn't smog. I hate those days. Rain is glorious. What can I say. I am a native. Even with the rain there are these pockets of sunshine that are fantastic. I stood out in the garden today soaking up a bit of vitamin D with my baby. We watched the bees that were buzzing around the lavender and chives. I was teaching her to talk to them. (a good life skill for all children.)
Both of my children napped today. At the same time. I had about an hour or so where no one needed me. I was properly lazy. I ate bread, truffle cheese and a pear for lunch. I read a book.
This afternoon I went to the friday market by myself. It was a nice little luxury. I came home with pounds of rhubarb. (which has been chopped up so I can make and can jam tomorrow) I also brought home asparagus, eggs, duck ravioli and kale. I roasted some asparagus and dressed it with vinegar and we had the ravioli with a bit of butter and cheese. Plus there was more pear and truffle cheese. A quick and filling dinner for a Friday.
Friday was pretty kind after all.
Oooh the Molly Moon ice cream truck will be coming through my neighborhood this weekend. That will be fun. Yeah I know I have like three or four different kinds of home-made ice cream in the freezer but I like tasting other kinds as well. I am so weak for the stuff. I like to think of this as extended research for my fantasy ice cream/brownie shop I would one day own. (somewhere in the Southwest of England) You know it would be a great idea. Forget cupcakes. It is all about the brownie. And ice cream for those that want ice cream. And I would make hot fudge sundaes that would make grown folk weep. (with a little glass of water on the side because you would need it.) I would have brownies of all kinds and blondies and even seven layer/magic bars. It would be a party.
Oh hey today in history the Congress proposed the 19th amendment which would eventually give women the right to vote. How neat is that? I like filling in little circles a lot. So thank you Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton for your hard work. (Alice Paul too.)
So folks, What's the haps?

Date: 2010-06-05 06:00 pm (UTC)I haven't been able to relate to all of the whining about the rain this year, which feels very strange. I worry about my memory going bad, but I keep thinking, "wait, isn't May & June like this every year after a 1 or 2 quick sunny weekends early on?" As long as we don't have a repeat of the year (2008?) where I had to flip the furnace back on when the calendar said July 31 cos it was 55F, I'll be okay with the year.

Date: 2010-06-06 11:49 pm (UTC)with you on the rain is good. water levels are down. wish the folks who are sun worshippers could see beyond their tans & into the needs of the environment & farmers. but heck, those tend to be folks who are suprised that farmers still exist :P
