briskly but quietly

Today's luxury was grocery shopping by myself. Who needs to eat caviar when I can saunter up and down the aisles looking over everything with a sort of genteel manner. "Oh look at that. Sultanas." "Why yes I will get a chocolate bar and not share it with anyone." "hrm. Kate Gosselin went too far with the botox." "Oh hey pineapple rings. Let's get some!" I came home with needed items.
My Mom gave me a recipe for maraschino cherries. They have to sit overnight but I will be able to can them tomorrow. She said I should have some leftover syrup and I should can that and then one has cherry syrup for Shirley Temples or Manhattans. Beverages for all!
I went for a walk and came home with a zucchini plant. I ended up at the nursery perusing things. I later planted things with Senor Onion's "help". His help mostly involved spraying things with the hose. At least he had the good sense not to douse me this time. I had chicken lingering in the fridge so I made a pie. Everyone was content.
On that note, here is an interesting article on Henry James walking through bits of Italy. His relationship to Italy kind of intrigues me. I think of his stories that I have read where anyone who really lives or isn't puritan is punished in some fashion, yet he was drawn to this chaotic and sensual country. (He was kind of well-known for being pretty up-tight and puritan in his own fashion. Ladies scared him or something.)
