Vicarious Vacation: the coast

Here we are on the coast. Away from the Blue Angels and the daily grind. Thursday morning I finished up various errands, got the car packed and we were off. Well okay not quite. I had to return to the house to grab a jacket and something else. No really. We made our way down the freeway. We were heading south but noticed how nasty the northbound traffic was because of the bridge closures for the Blue Angels. We stopped in Olympia at Big Tom's. I heartily suggest the cheese burger and tater tots. I also had a butterscotch milkshake. Not the best but it was pretty darn reasonable in the grand scheme of things. Then we continued our merry way toward the coast. We saw giant cows and kept heading west. A highlight of the trip was threatening to pull the car over when certain small boys were pulling out some classic backseat shenanigans. I was gifted with the task of reaching behind me and threatening to hang certain small boys by their toes if they didn't stop bothering their sister. "DAMMIT GIVE HER BACK POPPY THE PENGUIN OR YOU ARE NOT GOING TO THE BEACH"
Yeah. Stuff of memories. Miss Biscuit was tired and was unable to fall asleep and was near meltdown point by the time we arrived at Seabrook. Ah... Seabrook. AKA Stepford. I feel like I need a flowery dress and big hat and a shopping cart to glide around in a state of bliss. I kid. Really it is more like a Pottery Barn wet dream. Still. Ideal for vacationing at the coast with small people. Lovely house -complete with a hot tub. Mr. Jenner took Senor Onion out for a walk on the beach and I played with Miss Biscuit and calmed her down. Children fell asleep quickly after dinner. We had the pleasure of hanging out in the hot tub and going, "oof what a day".
Today we have played on the beach (where Miss Biscuit discovered that sand does not taste so nice), gone to Pacific Beach to have fish'n'chips and delightful pie. Then more playing on the beach and on trikes and the general fun of being on holiday.

All alone on the beach

Two Englishman on the beach. (you can tell by their choice of socks)

Sand castles! (and digging to Australia)

The Pacific!

Date: 2010-08-07 10:48 am (UTC)The real problem with sand and babies isn't the sand in the mouth, it's the sand in the poo. You can't explain why it hurts :-(.
Have a lovely holiday!
