Nearly everyone at Chez Anglo-America has been struck down with an unpleasant cold. So far I am free from this; despite being in the trenches with these unclean people. The children and Mr. Jenner are congested and sound a bit like the love children of Donald Duck and a Rhino. They all look miserable. My form of suffering comes from my neck/shoulders/back. Miss Biscuit can't really sleep these days because breathing is a trying task and the only way she can sleep involves me holding her. She isn't a giant creature but she isn't a loaf of wonder bread. This constant holding has done a number on me. Thank goodness for hot baths, heating pads and cocoa. I am also booking a massage.

I am going to cook up some chicken stew that will have enough garlic to make a person sweat the stuff for days. It may not be pretty but it does the job. Maybe it will also scare the cold away from coming near me.

Dear Cold,
You don't want to invade me. I'm gonna ruin you if you dare try.
Love, moi

ARGH, trying to pace myself with Downton Abbey. So hard. So difficult. I am so pleased that there will be a second series. I have so many things to say about this show. I need a club to discuss this show with people. We would have biscuits and cocoa and go, "OMG What about that Turk?"

I emailed my family the menu for Thanksgiving. I promise it isn't like Marney's Thanksgiving letter. Pretty much there will be big eating. Everyone contributes something in their own fashion so it makes everything even more fun.

What about the Turk indeed?! My goodness, he was a determined man wasn't he? I'm torn over Lady Mary. She's never going to be very likeable but I don't think she's uber-malicious (her behaviour towards Edith's suitor to the contrary but Edith had that coming. I mean really, writing a letter like that? But then she was peeved about what Mary and the mother said about her that time) but then that's kind of what I like about the show. Almost everyone, except Thomas it seems, isn't black or white, there are lots of greys. I think it makes them more human and less like stock period drama characters.

Maggie Smith for president, I say. Love her!

Mary is definitely not perfect. She can be heedless and puts her foot in her mouth on a regular basis -but I don't think she is all that malicious. Her worst moment was briefly getting the attention of that one man just to spite Edith. I feel some sympathy toward Edith but at the same time, she has over-dosed on bitchcakes. What ticked me off about Edith was that by writing that letter she not only put Mary in a bad place, she put her younger sister and the entire family in a potentially bad position. Talk about selfish.

That Turk is pretty damn confident.

Wah! Downton Abbey finished last Sunday here and I don't know if I can wait that long for the next series! Loved the matriarchs in it.

Marney needs to lighten up. I'd be tempted to bring a pan covered with foil (NO LID) just to see what would happen.

Marney! Thank you. I read that last year and I have been trying to remember her name to show people this year. I think my favourite part is where she tells the Mike Byrons to bring turnips, but not too many because most people hate them. But then, there is also so much other goodness there.

I loved that. Bring food people hate.. Brilliant idea.

That letter is HILARIOUS! Although I noticed that she asked for the stuffing to be brought in a casserole, but did not specify + lid.

I'd LOVE to be part of her holiday celebration. Just for the laughs. Pity her husband and kids.

I suspect that dinner is filled with A LOT of passive-aggressive commentary.

My problem with Lady Mary is that I keep thinking that Crichton/Kenneth More will appear at any moment
The other possibility is that her next lover will speak fluent French, and own a little black cat. Name that book?
