My son is definitely his Father's child and his paternal grandfather's grandchild. They all are very definite about clothes. They find something they like and they will wear it until it is a rag that has to be taken away from them and possibly burned so that they will not wear it again. They know what they like and they like what they know. In fact if you really want to make their day you find the exact same thing they used to have. Mind you it won't quite be right in some way because it doesn't have the lived in feel. My Mother inlaw remarked that her husband prefers to dress like a tramp. He says he just likes his clothes lived in and he approaches clothes shopping like one approaches car shopping. To him it makes no sense to buy new since it will depreciate in value. Yes. A Ford Focus is just like a worn shirt. I bet you never knew that. Dr. Jenner only bought a suit for his youngest son's wedding since his old suit (which he wore to our wedding) didn't fit him anymore. (he has thickened a bit about the waist in his maturity) I think Dr. Jenner might have tried to wear that ill-fitting suit if it wasn't for my Mother inlaw saying, "Idon'thinkso." (imagine that being said with a home-counties accent)

Many know of Mr. Jenner's famous jumper that looks a bit like my ancient teddy bear. This jumper is so old that even Beau Brummel made comments about it looking tatty. Over the years he has acquired different jumpers, they are all right but they aren't the jumper. I think we may have to bury him in it. Otherwise he would come back and haunt us until we gave it to him. But yes, I do find myself buying duplicates of certain items of clothing. It is odd what marriage finds you doing. I will search high and low to find these duplicate items.

This insanity leads me to my son. He is growing out of his pair of cold weather shoes (as children are inclined to do) I showed him a few different pairs and his response was, "no thank you, I want ones like my old pair." It was the same with his sandals. Being a good and patient Mother I found him an exact pair. What will he do when he grows out of this particular line of shoes? He made noises about wanting an exact same pair of red trousers like his old one. I have to stop myself from looking on ebay. The child has to grow used to some change in his life... but the trousers might be cheap. Oh what the heck let's look.

Jenner men: most particular.

Having just had to repurchase the exact same pair of shoes I'd walked through the bottom of, I totally empathise with those Jenner men. I must have my kitty face mary janes, or somebody may get a kick unexpectedly from a new and unacceptable shoe.

I also have a blister on my arch from trying a new "supportive" type athletic shoe. It was arch rape, no thanks to Nike Women's. At least I'm not overly dramatic about footwear.

Oh I've been known to buy some repeat items (especially if they wear well) But these guys? OMG they will dress like rag-men vs. buying something new.

I know of this peril. I purchased online the same shoes Craig liked previously before for him. I also discussed that when your formerly black shirts are now a medium grey, perhaps it is time to retire them.

would it work at least for alex to buy fabric, have me make him something, and THEN--have more of the same fabric, say, enough to make at least two more in bigger sizes? i dont suppose this might work for mr. jenner, it may be too late, but let me know what you think.

I have had really bad experiences with my favourite shoes or dresses being so well loved that they wear out faster than anything else, and I am left with some ratty beloved items.

Now, I just buy two. I have an extra pair of these very comfortable (and not so orthopedic looking) shoes for work, brand new, still in the Zappos box sitting in my closet waiting for when the first pair, as you say, "goes home to Jesus".

I suspect I may do this with certain pairs of shoes. When you find a great pair of shoes -oh it is like true love.

So no joy in getting something new here, then. You know, this is kind of cute, but I can definitely see the amount of frustration it can lead to. For you, that is. Unfortunately I don't have much sympathy for the Jenner men...
