Reading LJ has been really interesting/awesome as of late. Friends are creating all manner of things, people are experiencing the ups and downs of life, (new babies, old dear pets dying, health issues being sorted/worked through, new jobs, new lives) and finding new/interesting paths. Hurray for humanity.

As for me, we have finished the birthday stuff. Yesterday I made a bunch of marshmallows. I recalled why I only ever make a half batch, as I was up to my eye-balls in marshmallows, which isn't the worst thing but it gets messy when you are cutting them up (stick stuff) and rolling them in powdered sugar. I may make another batch that will be creamsicle flavored. But I need more corn syrup. And possibly sugar.

I am feeling the early itchings of doing some serious baking for Christmas. I also figured out the menu for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

I chase the children, I cook, I write. It is a good pattern of living.

Marshmallows are on my list of things to make this month. First, however, I need to finish cutting up the eight million strips for my stupid quilt.

Ah yes. The mass crafting that comes with the end of the year.

If you were needing to get some of those marshmellows off your hands, I would be game to swipe some. :)

I was too late to respond to the vanilla/orange debate last night but would bourbon flavored ones be an option?

These aren't terribly pretty. I think I may make another batch that is a little more appealing I bet bourbon would be good.

Please share the Christmas menus - I need inspiration and I haven't got the mojo to plan it all out!

Christmas Eve is a peculiar quasi Italian/Norwegian mix. (since it is more of my traditions)

Smoked salmon on toast
Pickled Herring
Oysters
Maybe Pasta con sardine (not sure how carby I will be feeling)
Cioppino
Cheese bacon buns (this is kind of an old family tradition)

Lefse for dessert

Christmas Day
more smoked salmon, herring, maybe caviar
cold asparagus or green beans w/vinegar
Green salad w/chevre, pecans & dried cherries
potatoes roasted in duck fat
Roasted duck w/port gravy
stuffing
Timpano

Christmas pudding
Christmas cake
lefse
sweets of all kinds
