a thursday of thursdays
Dec. 1st, 2011 10:26 pmIt felt like the first part of the day was this battle to accomplish basic tasks all while the great powers tried their best to make it a great big effin' bother. But in the end things were done, stuff was fixed, and I had an omelet. Senor Onion was having kind of a hard morning. At one point he was laying on the sofa and said, "I don't like being five." We talked about how some days, being five is great and other days it isn't. He was okay too. I spent the early afternoon volunteering in Senor Onion's class. There were art projects to do, dancing class, snacks, and general merriment that comes with being that age. Senor Onion had a good day. I was tired but had a good time. The rest of the day was pretty much all right. There wasn't the stress. There wasn't the fight to do things. Mr. Jenner fixed the broiler element! I ordered Christmas presents for family! We had sausages and chips for dinner! Exclamation point.
Ebb and flow and all that metaphorical jazz.
I helped my sister with her thesis tonight. I wasn't able to be super super thorough as I was one tired broad and she has to turn it in tomorrow. But I hope that she does well. She jokingly refers to me as Judith Jones when I take sentences and tear them to shreds to improve them. Hilarious for so many reasons.
Once she is done with that, she has the revolution to keep her busy. (Her college is up to all manner of shenanigans as of late what with their budget cuts and the nonsense they have been pulling) She and the other students are little leslie knope monsters.
Tomorrow is Friday. No school! Sure there are errands but those are all right. I want some egg nog.

Date: 2011-12-02 06:36 am (UTC)My sister has started a cooking blog, inspired by Julia and Julia or whatever it is. I think this is the cooking blog equivalent of when taxi drivers start giving stock tips. (Mind you, she's not a bad cook at all, but I imagine some taxi drivers do okay on the market too.)

Date: 2011-12-02 05:07 pm (UTC)1 egg
1/2 C cream (or maybe substitute/add some milk in there)
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp allspice
splash of vanilla
I've decided to just whir everything together with eggbeaters instead of fancying it up by beating the egg whites separately and then mixing them in to get that fluffy, cloud-like texture. This mixture also gets a bit better if you let it sit for a little while. Or if you add brandy.
Of course, I'm telling you all this while I fully know you've got your own awesome eggnog-making method. :-)
