First off, a quick happy birthday to my lovely sister. She is always entertaining and a good person to go shopping with. She also has good taste in books. But you already knew that.
Today I did a bit of last minute, "damn I need that" grocery shopping. When I think I have things done there is always a tiny something or other that needs buying. I also realized that we don't have quite enough forks for Christmas dinner. I found a spoon and fork set that had red handles for Senor Onion. He thought it was grand and insisted upon using them tonight. One more thing taken care of.
Later the kids helped me to make lefse. It did cause quite a mess. Such a mess in fact that I put them in the bath after lunch. At least they are nice and clean for Christmas Eve. After that all bets are off, for the children will be coated in sweets and riding high on the glory of Christmas. Which is what is so wonderful when you are that age. "OMG CANDY PRESENTS" I managed to get the kitchen back into a slightly presentable sort or order -at least as close as I can get to it at times. Further prep was done for the next couple of days, more laundry was done, and god knows what else.
I lost my phone at some point today. Not sure where. I suppose it is somewhere in the house. Oh well. i am sure it will turn up.
Anyhow. This afternoon I took the kids out for a bit. They needed a walk and I needed to get one more thing from the grocery store. We went to Madison Park (where irritable old money sometimes lives) and we went to the bakery to buy those atrocious cookies they love. We walked along the water and looked out at the lake. The weather was quite nice. Not sun-bathing weather but the sun was out. They played at the playground for a bit and then we picked up bread and things. They returned home fairly cheerful.
I feel a bit like a horse in the gate before a race -which is a trifle silly because things will calm down soon enough. Advent is always like preparing for a baby. Thankfully Christmas is easier than labor.
Tomorrow we will take the kids swimming in the morning and possibly a walk in the afternoon. Wear those chilluns out. At some point my brothers will be showing up. I am kind of tempted to make a cheeseball to distract them a bit before dinner. Well mostly to slow down Tom. We will be having an antipasti platter but it is almost like he needs his own plate.
Hot baths, hot cider, and Noel Perrin.
