Happy Christmas Eve
Dec. 24th, 2011 08:40 pmAh Christmas Eve.
I burned my arm earlier today when I was cooking a duck. I was flipping the duck over (you cook it breast-side down first and then turn it over once it is fairly crispy) and my arm bumped the edge of the pan. The burn isn't too awful -fairly super-ficial second degree burn. I know my burns. We went swimming a bit later -which did help it feel better. I went to the pharmacy and bought some burn cream for it and bandaged that sucker so it looks much worse than it is.
Despite that minor bother, it has been rather nice today. We took the kids for a walk, I had a nice chat with my Mom on the telephone, I cooked, we played with the kids, we tidied, and had tea.
My brother Mike showed up after he worked the final home game for the Seahawks. He took some serious razzing from our cousins who live in San Francisco. (the Seahawks were playing the 49ers) The Seahawks took a beating it seems.
We ate and ate and then ate some more. Mike remembered that as a child he wasn't allowed to eat anymore cheese buns until he ate some other part of his dinner. While he ate all of his dinner, he also pointed out, "I'm a grown-up. I can eat all the cheese buns I want." This is one of the glories of being an adult. It an sometimes make up for having to pay bills and be responsible. All the cheese buns!
Eventually we got the children into pajamas, there were stories, and the putting out of a mince pie for Santa and a carrot for his reindeer. They both went to bed fairly quick. I do believe we won the battle in wearing them out.
Dear Lord in heaven, please don't let them wake up at some obscenely early hour for we are mortal and feel pain. The pain of not enough sleep.

Date: 2011-12-25 10:09 pm (UTC)Hope you've had a splendid day, and that you got to enjoy the fruits of your own labour. And if you get burned later on and don't have a brun cream at hand, forked/lightly whipped egg whites are totally brilliant. Both at soothing the burn and in preventing scarring. Eat the egg yolk (cholesterol is very important in treating burns), and apply the white. :-)
