come on now

Weather.
It happens.
We awoke to freezing rain which coated everything in a fine sheen of icy goodness. It sounded like a Rice Krispies convention outside. Then it began to snow some more. Then Mr. Jenner alerted me to the fact that his flight which had been moved from 10 or something had been moved to noon. Fine. Then it had been moved to 6:45. He gets to the airport and the flight has been delayed until 9:45. and so he waits. I look at the weather outside and think, "this isn't good. At all."
But I took solace in the fact that he wasn't traveling in a tiny plane with musicians. Rule of thumb: never travel with musicians in small planes; especially when the weather isn't hot.
Things became interesting in that it took a great deal of time for the plane that was supposed to fly out of San Diego had not even left the tarmac in Seattle. There was a lot of work to de-ice the plane long enough to make it down the runway and so on. The flight out of Seattle that was supposed to leave at like 5pm left at 8:45. Mr. Jenner told me that when the agents received word that the plane LEFT Seattle and that they got permission to have Mr. Jenner's flight leave after the 11:30pm curfew there was great cheering. When the news wasn't so definite and there were noises made about canceling the flight, Mr. Jenner booked a flight for this morning to fly into Portland (since all flights into Seattle from San Diego on Friday were completely booked up) and then find his way home. Either via car or pack mule.
Of course as soon as he booked that flight, there was good news that he would indeed make it home.
Mr. Jenner could have stayed another night in San Diego but he was pretty keen to get home. I was keen for him to be home. A whole lotta keen. (I think I want that to be the name of my next band. "Whole lotta Keen.") Plus Senor Onion was sick with a nasty sore throat, Miss Biscuit was super grumpy and two, and I had been stuck with a couple of kids all week and I was losing my marbles. (and oh hey PMS!!!)
The flight eventually left San Diego a little after midnight. I was able to cancel his flight to Portland and eventually I sorta went to bed. It was more like I dozed and then a short feverish little boy climbed into my bed. Mr. Jenner made it home just before four am. He had been able to get a taxi and the taxi dropped him off about half a mile from the house. (as close as the driver could get since all side roads are a mess) and Mr. Jenner trudged home from the wars.
It was good to see him. He collapsed into bed. Happy to be horizontal. He said later that he slept on the flight but he didn't really enjoy it because he said it felt like he had slept five minutes and worried that the plane had turned around...
Today there was slush and a bit of rain. I ran away for a couple of hours. I took the bus up the hill and went to Elliott Bay Books, had some cocoa, had a nice walk, went to Trader Joe's and walked home. It was a bother leaping over the slush puddles but oh I experienced freedom. FREEDOM.
Go away snow.
Go away.
