Apparently my new skill-set involves talking down tetchy people on FB. Whether it is anxious wound up white Democrats, or wound up Trump supporters who thinks everyone hates them because people are asking them about the fact that they supported a fascist with some pretty terrible views who is surrounded by some really awful people, and is shifting ass on a dime. Pretty much all the useful stuff I learned in my son's preschool in calming a child and getting them to talk about their feelings, can be applied to grown-ass folks.
SKILLS. I have them.
Seriously thought... white folk, we gotta get over ourselves. Most of us are showing our asses.

In other fun news... I helped build a pretty epic blanket fort today so I think I win at life.

Sometimes I get a little Leslie Knope on people by bringing out my binders of facts. (I did that to a college grad the other day.) I don't NEED to be nice, but I kind of like to use it as a weapon. I get them comfortable and then slowly ask questions while being super enthusiastic about sharing cool facts/history about things, and see how they respond. Then I act mildly sympathetic while tearing apart their positions. And then somehow... SOMEHOW the Trump supporters end up thanking me for not yelling at them. Today I was really sympathetic to a Trump supporter because we both agreed lobbyists have too much power. The supporter said that is part of Trump's policies to change this and give those lobbyists less power. Then I shared with him the NYTimes piece that showed much of his transition team is made up of powerful lobbyists and how Trump's spokesperson didn't respond a comment about this shift in position. Because there is something kind of fun about hitting someone sideways with the hard truth. I will be curious if they respond.
