what I find.
Jul. 25th, 2005 09:55 amCool Discovery in Bulgaria. It makes think of a special I once saw on the mythical Amazonian women referred to in Ancient Greek stories and how it turned out they actually existed to some degree. They were a Nomadic Matriarchal society that were incredibly skilled on horses and were vicious fighters. They would bury their people in mounds which have been found in Eastern Europe but over time they sort of disappeared. They found that these women had drifted across the steppes and found their ancestors in Mongolia. On occasion you will run across blonde and blue-eyed Nomads in Mongolia and they recently did some DNA testing and found that these people in Mongolia were related to the remains of the Amazonian women of Eastern Europe.
Now as for the link it shows how far-reaching many tribes and empires were and that this particular leader/King/whatever was possibly buried rather suddenly. I love a good bit of archeology with my tea. They think he may be a King called Svet.
...
I have been reading a bit about Queen Victoria and her family and it is just one big bowl of interesting dysfunction and family ties. Odd little facts that I have run across are that nearly every one of her children named a child after her. Imagine family reunions with all of those people and there are at least 10 people called Victoria or Albert. This is why one has so many middle-names. There is the hope that at least one family member doesn't have one of your names. Plus it was intriguing to see how all the royal families were related mostly through Victoria's family alone so when it came to World War I it was some family's private feud where they brought in someone else to do the nasty work of fighting.
I bet you didn't know that Queen Victoria was a fairly decent artist as well. She had a nice talent for sketching and painting. Painting and drawing were things that all ladies were taught to do in that period.
