Cool Discovery in Bulgaria. It makes think of a special I once saw on the mythical Amazonian women referred to in Ancient Greek stories and how it turned out they actually existed to some degree. They were a Nomadic Matriarchal society that were incredibly skilled on horses and were vicious fighters. They would bury their people in mounds which have been found in Eastern Europe but over time they sort of disappeared. They found that these women had drifted across the steppes and found their ancestors in Mongolia. On occasion you will run across blonde and blue-eyed Nomads in Mongolia and they recently did some DNA testing and found that these people in Mongolia were related to the remains of the Amazonian women of Eastern Europe.

Now as for the link it shows how far-reaching many tribes and empires were and that this particular leader/King/whatever was possibly buried rather suddenly. I love a good bit of archeology with my tea. They think he may be a King called Svet.

I have been reading a bit about Queen Victoria and her family and it is just one big bowl of interesting dysfunction and family ties. Odd little facts that I have run across are that nearly every one of her children named a child after her. Imagine family reunions with all of those people and there are at least 10 people called Victoria or Albert. This is why one has so many middle-names. There is the hope that at least one family member doesn't have one of your names. Plus it was intriguing to see how all the royal families were related mostly through Victoria's family alone so when it came to World War I it was some family's private feud where they brought in someone else to do the nasty work of fighting.

I bet you didn't know that Queen Victoria was a fairly decent artist as well. She had a nice talent for sketching and painting. Painting and drawing were things that all ladies were taught to do in that period.

Who wants to envy my sweet sweet ass? I know certain people do.
Tonight at a book shop Jasper Fforde is going to be doing a meet-n-greet for his latest book The Big Over Easy. I stopped by work to pick up a copy with my discount so he could sign it tonight. Well...it seems he was going to stop by an hour or so later and sign copies. I hung out and held an impromptu cocktail hour with various co-workers going on lunches and breaks and waited and waited and then the super cute and funny author showed up and I got him to sign a copy especially for my Mum. I was all fan-girl gushy and told him how great he is and how much I like him and his books and how much my Mom thinks he is so cool and stuff. *gush gush gush*
I essentially got to have a semi-private audience with him. It was "teh awesome". Now you may envy my sweet sweet ass some more.

Then I went and bought a cadbury bar and came home.

what can I say? I have a cheap fetish for slightly nervous men from Britain

So that is my famous person encounter for the week.

In other news today I received one of the coolest reasons why someone is unable to come to our wedding.

Unfortunately won't be able to make it as I am going to be away in Sicily doing field work on Mt. Etna during September and October this year.

A shame that she can't make it but it sounds like she will be having loads of fun.

Now to make cake.

I love Anthony Bourdain's new show. But then I love Anthony Bourdain. What can I say? I have a fondness for ex-junkie chefs (my Father excluded) who know their stuff. I spent a nice portion of my childhood in a restaurant and I always thought that chefs and kitchen staff were crazy bastards like this. Apparently they are also civilized people. But I prefer the former. Bourdain makes me miss Paris a ton. The meals that were so sinfully intoxicating, the absolute excitement of every moment. There was a bit on tonight's show that reminded me of the fun I had drinking absinthe in England that one night. (faint memories of talking to firemen and an Oriental bathroom that looked like an Opium den)

I am feeling quite lovely tonight.
