My brother Tom never has the typical experience. He leads a nearly Kramer-like existence in his ability to fall ass-backwards into great situations and taking potentially awful moments and turning them around.
If some readers don't know my brother lives in New York. He just finished acting school, works at Scholastic to pay the rent and hustles his best to get an acting job. Right now he is in an improv troupe, is doing unpaid theater work and auditions quite a bit for everything else under the sun. He is keeping busy. He lives in Brooklyn in a piece of shit place (owned by some shady Orthodox Jews who don't like it when you mention lawyers when trying to get the mold removed) with a bunch of other actors some of whom have a slight cocaine habit (which he finds annoying when they come home and need to be let in because they can't find their keys.) Ah youth you say.
Last night he was coming home from doing a show when a crack-head made it clear that Tom should give up any valuable belongings so no one cuts up his pretty face. Tom freaked and ran and started throwing things in the scary mugger's general direction. Tom got to his apartment, told his friend what happened and they went outside and saw the guy trying to mug someone else. They started to yell at him to give him back his shit. The guy got pissy that Tom did not have any money. I mean what do you expect when you rob a starving actor? jewelry and cash?
Tom was irate and started chasing him and then the police saw what was going on and started chasing too in their car and tried to run him down but then the mugger went running into the projects. Tom and his friend continued going after the guy screaming at him to give up the shit. The guy threw a wallet and Tom said, "that isn't my wallet. Where is my wallet, backpack and Saint Christopher's medal. (My Mom gave him that just before he came to NYC) Then some big black guys hanging out on the street saw what was going on and decided to help Tom and they also started chasing after this crack-head. So My brother the skinny white guy, his friend and a bunch of big black dudes are running after him through the projects at three in the morning. The guy eventually throws at Tom most of his stuff except the medal and Tom is telling him to give it all up. The guy claims he doesn't have it but they are still running. He then grabs a loose pipe and starts swinging and Tom doesn't care. (his friend got hit in the arm) and they keep going after him. The crack-head tries to get to a friend's house and escape but eventually Tom makes it clear to the guy that mugging isn't the lifestyle for this crack-head.
Tom lost his medal but that is okay. He got his stuff back and found that the guy didn't really have a knife. He had a wrench or something.
Tom Gibson: lives in New York two years never gets mugged. He finally gets mugged and proceeds to run the guy down in the projects, kick some ass and gets his shit back.
Only him.

He said, "I came home, told Mom what happened and then took the biggest shit of my life." *snorts* Only he would ever say that.

....

It is a pleasant Saturday and I was listening to a particular piece of music that has changed my state of mind about a number of things. It kind of set aside a lot of anxiety and suddenly I feel excitement. Is it mania? Maybe.
But I think things will be okay. There are still a million details that need to be attended to with the wedding but that is quite alright. It will come together.
I was listening to the music that will be used for the Recessional (you know when the bride and groom leave the church and everyone is cheerfully wandering out) and I had a moment of joy. I look forward to that exact moment because it will be done. I will be able to go to the reception and just mingle. No more planning and we will be married. God bless Handel.
