daily adventures
Oct. 9th, 2005 01:55 pmMore things I have seen:
I saw in the market these silk ties called 'surprise ties'. To the average person they look like a conservative silk tie and if you look on the other side of the tie and pull the material apart there is a very very naked woman showing her all....so to speak. It is a cheap way to entertain yourself I suppose.
Mr. Jenner and I ended up separated briefly today and that was probably one of the most scary/alarming moments of my life. Yes we are co-dependent. So now we have decided that neither one of us is allowed to die. ever.
I had no keys to the room. He had no map. Yet we found our way back to the place. Lucia (the owner of our pensionne) was cleaning so she was able to let me in and Mr. Jenner wandered until he found a familiar street.
Did I mention that by walking alone someone grabbed my ass? Hrm.
The best analogy for men and women here are pigeons and food. When I am with Mr. Jenner I don't have people coming up to me and offering to buy me a drink or to chat but when he will go inside a restaurant to use a bathroom I find that men will come up to me. It is like when I fed some bread to some pigeons. They went after it and when a seagull came around they all went away.
Amusing culture.
No adventures in food today. But give it time. Something will happen. Tomorrow we may go to Pisa and do silly pictures of us holding up the tower. Because that is required.
The weather is turning in our favor. It is sunny out. I was worried about the weather being nothing but crap on the coast (we leave on Tuesday for Manarola in the Cinque Terre) and I was thinking of coming up with another plan or a place to go to if it was too blah there. There was a part of me that was tempted by Paris. But that is because I love the city too much. Plus I can speak more French than Italian.
Mr. Jenner and I are already thinking of other places we want to go to next in Europe. We are thinking maybe Iceland, Norway or Croatia. But that won't be for awhile.
I suppose I should think thoughts of lunch.
There is a certain pleasure in not having definite plans or making ourselves see all the 'must see' sights when in Florence.
There is a certain kind of swirling fervor to the city which I enjoy. We walk and walk and absorb and I have boundless energy. But when I finally stop at the end of the day I collapse.
When reading about Venice I came across a quote by Marcel Proust that summed up everything about Venice so perfectly. "When I went to Venice my dream became my address."
I admit a sort of fondness for Milan because it was orderly to me. It was comfortable. But when traveling you must escape the comfort and see other things.
