Last night it took forever to get Senor Onion to settle down to go to sleep. I tried to think of what could be making him cry. I gave him something for his teething, I changed his diaper, I comforted him, tried to nurse him. He didn't want his pacifier. I finally handed him over to Mr. Jenner because I was feeling a little frustrated.
It turns out he had gas.
I felt like I should be fired as Mummy. Something so freaking obvious. *screams into a pillow for an hour or two*Senor Onion was up every two hours. On the dot. (did he have an alarm clock???) It was a long night for all parties involved. I feel like an absolute zombie. Of course he doesn't seem too happy about the state of things either. It wasn't all frustration and exhaustion.
This morning we gave him his first bit of toast and marmite. He seemed to enjoy that. I think chewing on the toast helped the teething. My son the marmite eater.
The biography on Ben Franklin that I am finishing (finally!) is fantastic. The context and details really give one a better idea of his influence with America's conception. It wasn't all that straight-forward. Franklin really liked England a great deal and was devoted for a number of years to King and Country. The colonies breaking away in some respects was like the deterioration of a marriage. Toward the end it was quite bitter. Also Franklin was a pretty sexy figure in his day. Many of the founding Fathers had an appealing edge to them.
My plans today involve roasting beef, making french dip au jus and maybe finding time/energy to take a nap.
