Sweet relief
Aug. 18th, 2008 01:02 pmWe broke through the vicious humidity and heat and this morning it became quite dark out. It was so dark that I had to turn on a lamp in the living room. Then it began to rain good and hard. It was fantastic. There was wind too so it cleared up the air which was absolutely awful and stagnant from the past few days. Things smell clean and clear once again.
Senor Onion and I baked a cake for the week. He even helps with stirring. When they are this small you put things into measuring cups/spoons and bowls and let them pour things into the mixing bowl. Then he gets to lick the spoon afterward. He gets absolutely giddy if we get to bake. He will start saying, "cook! cook! cook!" (Strangely he has an English accent when he says that)
And as it is cool enough I am going to make brown stew. (Many thanks to
queenthesixth for the recipe) I will also cook up some potatoes as well. I thought I would have to wait until late September to make this. Yay.
I have begun to mulch an area to expand the strawberry bed for next year. I am attempting to keep up with the plants which are expanding like crazy. I bought some seeds which I will begin to grow in January under the lights. Serious plans people!
