I have made Senor Onion's afternoon as there were custard creams and scones with home-made jam for tea. It takes so little. Though he took great offense when I attempted to clean the crumbs off of his face. Mommie Dearest indeed.
It has been a fairly lazy and pleasing Memorial Day for the most part. Not too many chores. (just had to fold/put away some clothes/diapers) A slightly short day for Mr. Jenner. Later on we will grill some burgers, cook up some sweet potato fries and cut into the watermelon I bought yesterday. I may make Watermelon Aqua Fresca with the melon as well. Plus sundae and sorbets for dessert if that is your kind of thing.
The general mood of the neighborhood today is one of lazy enjoyment. People are out mowing their lawns, children are screaming, people are grilling things and the birds are harassing one another. As of late some Stellar's Jays have taken to bullying a few crows in the back garden. Jays are kind of known for their...bossy loud nature, but this is turning into Wild Kingdom.
There was disappointment at lunch when it was realized by Mr. Jenner and Senor Onion that we were out of brownies. So it seems more must be made this week or that may be mutiny.
I weeded the strawberry bed and the flower bed in the front garden. I always end up with the itchiest of arms/hands when I forget to wear some sort of protection. The itch has subsided and things are tidier. I am thinking about things to put in the flower bed. I think Echinacea/Coneflowers might be an idea. They don't require a ton of water, would get a ton of direct sun and would add a bit of color to things. It would look good with the Rosemary and some Firewitch. The daffodils and tulips may go elsewhere for next year. But that is a whole other long-drawn out conversation with myself.
The boys are off for a walk around the block and I may begin prepping patties for dinner. Oh boy!
