I had a really good sandwich today. It made some things better. There was pastrami and cole slaw. That is what matters. I almost went to Salumi but the line was too long, they were drilling across the street, I began to have contractions and the people in front of me were talking about Michael Jackson as if they were a physical wikipedia article come to life. The cured meats may be good there but I just gave up caring at that point. Yes. I feel that way.
But the sandwich I ended up having was satisfying. There were old Italian guys wearing older Italian guy hats sitting outside eating their sandwiches. [livejournal.com profile] bliss_street knows the exactly the type of hat I am talking about. One guy was sitting with what looked like his Grandson. They were having big sandwiches and cokes. They were talking baseball.
My sister had a sandwich with a variety of meats, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions and oil and vinegar. This place does east coast style meat sandwiches. And lord they were delicious. I felt less angry after having one. Plus my contractions stopped.
Note to self: bring sandwiches when I go into labor. *snorts*

By this afternoon I couldn't be bothered to cook. It was Friday. My son didn't nap. It was warm. My back hurt. I was tired of the world and its fickle ways. So instead I read a profile/book review on Victor Fleming. (Mom you should read this) I ordered dinner and called it good.
Oh yes and there was also a jello salad I made. It was such a wild salad. It involved dark pitted cherries, coca-cola, cubes of cream cheese. It was truly something else. I think I like it. It is very mid-western. Senor Onion helped to make it. But then he didn't want any. Fine. Be that way.

After dinner we hung out in the garden and picked strawberries and ate them. They were pretty good. This morning a hobo squirrel tried to take a strawberry and our resident robins chased after him. They obviously had a taste for blood. Strangely our resident robins don't have an interest in the fruit. They are all about the worms. We have developed a good relationship with them. I keep the crows away when I can, and they keep the squirrels away. And they seem to know I won't harm their nest or babies. These are good tenants.

Sandwiches are good things sometimes.
