I recently read some blog post where a Mother had concerns about her daughter playing with Barbie. Her kid is three, she let her have a barbie from the thrift store and she felt really uncomfortable because she dislikes Barbie and all that it is associated with it. She has concerns about things like body dysmorphia and so on. (blah-di-blah blah women's studies stuff) She wanted advice on finding some more body-friendly dolls and so on.

An interesting interview with Howard Dean about health care and the need for a public health care option. He has some radical ideas and he has some weight with this argument as he used to be a practicing doctor and his wife is a doctor so the dude knows the reality of the situation. He talks not just about the uninsured but the millions of Americans who have the shitty health insurance plan that they can barely afford and they barely use because it will still cost them tons of money. You know the plan I am talking about. The "not seeing the doctor unless the limb has fallen off" plan.

Call/email your Senator. (handy-dandy link to find the names of the Senators in your state and how to contact them) Even if it is a short note to say, "I support the health care option." The fact is if they get a certain number of calls/emails about it, it usually indicates a greater number of people care about a subject. (and it pushes them to take up the cause in a more vocal manner) Lean on their hesitant asses if you care about this. Even if you have super awesome health insurance, a good public option could lower costs and premiums in the end. But most don't have decent health insurance. Most are stuck with health insurance that finds fun ways to get more money out of you and deny you coverage for certain things. And it is nonsense. Pure nonsense.
