We went to my hometown today for a wedding. One of my oldest friends was getting married and I wasn't going to miss it for anything. I have known Annie since we were about three years old. We started out in ballet together. We were in the same class at school here and there, both played violin for awhile, but mostly we were in ballet together. It was a wonderful event. It was right by the water so it was slightly cool and there were a number of old friends there. So everyone was able to catch up a bit here and there. We definitely agreed we needed to see each other more often than at weddings. So we will have to make it happen. It was fantastic seeing Annie's family. (also people who watched my grow up) It was a bright and beautiful day overall. (too hot but that was all right) Senor Onion wasn't terribly interested in the wedding and that was expected. He ended up spending most of the ceremony playing in a nearby stream that I played in as a child. There was something rather delightful about being able to give my kid the same experience I had. I absolutely loved this stream in this particular park. I spent hours playing there. It is almost like a jungle and you can have the best fun walking up and down this shallow water. All kinds of terrific games of make-believe were had. I also remember being a bit older than him and a picnic with a bunch of Buddhist monks at this park and running around the water. Senor Onion found a stick and stomped around in the water. Mr. Jenner said that at one point Senor Onion noticed out wet he had gotten and said, "I am quite messy." *snorts*

Then it was off to the reception. Terrific food. Some aspects made me think of my own wedding. Bits of nibbles at all of the tables so people wouldn't die of starvation while waiting for the food and what not. It was a bit of a bbq for the main event. Absolutely fan-freaking-tastic pulled pork/chicken sandwiches, a nice salad and mighty fine bbq'ed salmon. It wasn't dry at all. (lasagna for the vegetarians) Truly. This sandwich was so good it was almost sinful. Mr. Jenner who isn't a bbq fan by nature, loved the sandwich too. There was lemonade, soda, beer and wine. Very comfortable and casual. A good Port Townsend Summer wedding.
Then there was the cake. (why I go to weddings) When I saw it, it looked awfully familar. It make me think of the cake from my own wedding. Same design and there were fresh flowers. It turned out the cake came from the same place. Well hot dog, this was going to be some good cake then. It was. It was an almond cake with almond buttercream frosting and a lemoncurd filling. (my cake had been a lemon cake with almond buttercream frosting and a raspberry preserve filling) The cake was moist, the frosting was perfect. My friend Kurt who was at the wedding (and had been to mine) said it was fantastic cake. (he also loved the cake at my wedding) Take note people, a cake should be simple, moist and delicious. Senor Onion was all about the cake too. I told him at weddings there was cake. So he was pretty excited when cake time happened. He was also pretty worn out as he hadn't napped. But he was a trooper.

I think the couple will be very happy. They are such nice people. Annie has a terrific spirit and I think she has found someone who is most appropriate for her.
