It has been a delightfully quiet weekend. My back is a wreck but I am slowly healing. (I have acupuncture tomorrow night so that is something to look forward to)
I went out to breakfast with my friend Danica. We went to Portage Bay Cafe in Ballard. We were smart and went early enough so there wasn't a wait. The decor has a very IKEA feel about it. IKEA with windows. I had the rancher's breakfast. It allowed me to have carbs, protein, sweet and savory. It allowed me to be an absolute pig. I was hungry. (Miss Biscuit is growing and nurses like it is a contest) I had the ham, poached eggs, challah french toast and the roasted potatoes. Plus some orange juice. Danica had one of the specials (french toast with poached pears) and her gentleman friend had Joe's Scramble. The service was swift but not intrusive. I was kind of surprised how fast our plates were brought to us. But how was the food? I loved the ham. I am cheap though when it comes to ham. The potatoes had a lot of flavor (though they could have been more crisp but that is a personal thing) and yet they weren't overly peppered. This is a thing with me. It seems like a lot of places give you the choice of bland mealy potatoes or the airplane school of seasoning with too much pepper. The poached eggs were disappointing. I have to be kind though, because poached eggs aren't easy when you are throwing down breakfast/brunch. They are either too hard or too meh. These were too meh and they weren't warm enough for me. Go with scrambled. Scrambled doesn't require as much from the chef. Maybe sunny-side up? The French toast was good and the toppings bar had a good variety. I was happy with butter and maple syrup. The syrup was also used with the ham. Mmmmm ham and maple syrup. Let's have a moment to enjoy that combination. The orange juice was good. Danica LOVED the french toast and poached pears. She made sure it had a lot of butter because she is of Scandinavian stock and the pale people must have their butter. Her gentleman friend noted that the scramble was not conservative when it came to the amount of sausage. The egg was mostly used as a means of holding the spinach and sausage together. A meat-lovers delight. About half-way through our meal I noticed the place had filled up and there was quite a pack near the entrance. People were waiting like it was the last boat out of Singapore. We were the awful people taking our sweet time to pay the check and get out of there. It filled me up but didn't leave me comatose. I will have to bring the kids and Mr. Jenner next time. The family was at home having the weekly video chat with Nana. On the way back to my car I looked in the windows of a fabric shop. I think I need to take my Mother there. I saw some great stuff that would make some terrific skirts.

I came home and held the ever growing Miss Biscuit. I may have pinched a nerve and messed up my back from holding this adorable little girl so much in the last week. I am going to see my doctor and get a referral to see a physical therapist. I think if I learn some exercises to strengthen my back and maybe get a new carrier that bears her weight more evenly I should be okay. The peanut shell sling has been incredibly helpful since her birth and allows me to get things done and go places but she is getting bigger and the weight on my neck/shoulders is taking its toll. Yoga might be another thing to contemplate. It is like having to train as an athlete when caring for children. Some of it comes from holding Miss Biscuit and occasionally having to grab Senor Onion when he is out of sorts. You rush in and grab children while carrying a bag and then you find yourself feeling like a cripple. *hobble hobble*

Eventually both children were talked into taking naps. It helped that Senor Onion was taken out on a walk to get rid of his energy. He also has a bit of a cold. I am going to blame taking him to two or three different playgrounds last week and the library. When you have a few children in an area together -smallpox is born. This is something I am not looking forward to when he goes to pre-school. Every week it is going to be some form of the plague isn't it? I think I will send him to school with garlic around his neck or something.

I had the pleasure of doing some baking/cooking and being able to read my book for a bit. I have bread that is rising for tomorrow's baking. I made a sort of clafoutis (only it wasn't with cherries) and then I cooked up some chicken and dumplings for dinner. Senor Onion was not impressed but I won't hold it against him tonight as he doesn't have much in the way of taste-buds. He has also taken to eating an entire carrot in the afternoon as a snack. I figure it is fiber and probably won't hurt him. It might turn him orange but orange is one of my favorite colors. Mr. Jenner liked dinner. So he can stay.

Mr. Jenner is attempting to fix our squeaky floors bit by bit. It is kind of nice.

I have already had a hot bath but I sort of want another one. Really I want to live in the bath sometimes.
