I think I did things this weekend. It sometimes becomes a blur.
Yesterday the deck was varnished/sealed as we finally had some dry days. It was quite warm out. The sort of day where everyone lives outdoors. Mr. Jenner was working downstairs in the workshop with the garage door open. Senor Onion was "helping" him for a good part of the afternoon. Around tea time I heard the music of the ice cream truck and looked out the window to see Senor Onion and Mr. Jenner get a treat. It was kind of fun to watch my kid as he picked out something and brought it back. It was an absolutely lurid Sponge Bob Squarepants ice cream/popsicle. It even had these gumball eyes that stuck out. He was just so pleased and excited as this was his very first time getting something from the ice cream truck. It likely spoiled his dinner but hey this is what warm approaching Summer days are about when you are small. He ate the whole thing up and was happy as a clam.

I suppose my excitement was going to Target. I had to buy useful things like toilet paper and carpet tape. I also came home with a couple of shirts. a pair of pajama pants (with strawberries all over them) and a pair of sunglasses. (Senor Onion accidentally broke my last pair a year or so ago) I am easily entertained by cheap shirts and the luxury of wandering around a store by myself with no need to worry about the behavior of the short set.

Today it was equally nice (though not as hot in the afternoon which was fine with me as I am a big baby who doesn't like heat.) I made strawberry sorbet -first of the season! I baked some cookies and folded laundry. Yes I do live the wild life. My kids also napped at the same time so I had an hour to just be. I read a Nancy Mitford book for awhile and enjoyed the sun. Then on a whim I cut my hair. I wanted to get rid of some of the straggly split-ends and well give me a pair of scissors and I go to town. For reference my hair was about this long.
Now the after photo:
hair do
My hair looks a bit lighter due to the lighting in the bathroom. Please excuse those bits of baby bangs going on near my forehead. Post-partum hair loss/regrowth is sexy y'all. Everything is sort of growing back in and so my hair looks just this side of dumb or out of place. My inspiration was 1960s actresses in European cinema. (Sophia Loren or Anouk Aimee) When my hair isn't so tidy I like to think it has a nice Fellini/bedroom hair look about it. Because really that has always been approach/excuse for my messy hair. "I want to look like I just had sex." *snorts* It allows me to ignore combing it.

As for the chaos in the kitchen, Friday night I decided to make Fern cake -which I have been doing my best to eat most of. I just keep walking by the fridge and taking small bites. I figure by walking I am... earning some cake. Or some nonsense. Tonight for dinner I made a haphazard ratatouille-ish dish. I also sauteed some chicken that had been marinating all day. I combined the chicken with some sort of harvest grain blend thingie from Trader Joe's. That one with quinoa, orzo and other healthful things. I call it smug grains. So between that, the ratatouille dish and a spinach salad we had a variety of vegetables. Look at us. Being healthy. It's okay. I had more cake after dinner. And a few salted caramels that I have been hoarding in the cupboard. (they are from France and are so delicious that I won't share. MINE ALL MINE)

I need to think of more things to cook tomorrow. Nothing like a good stare at the pantry to get some inspiration.
