Yesterday was a terrible horrible no good very bad day. So let's banish it.
Today was much more calm. Sure I had a horrible night of insomnia but there was sun today. Summer decided to show up. I don't know if it got time off for good behavior or is on parole but I am not going to complain. I took Miss Biscuit out in the stroller and Senor Onion rode his tricycle and we went for a nice long walk/ride. We saw a tree being removed, investigated this bird habitat a neighbor put together and observed the final touches on the road work that has been going on a block over. The men doing the roadwork jokingly invited Senor Onion to help out. He has become a familiar sight over the past few weeks to everyone so they are always saying hello. The dose of vitamin D did all of us a world of good. Everyone seemed much more at ease and both kids took a nap. I celebrated by tearing up the front lawn a bit to extend the garden. Yes I do know how to have a good time.

Last night I sort of put together a variation on a no-knead bread recipe and then this morning I baked it. It tastes pretty good and makes for a nice toast. We had some with dinner tonight. It was a home-made starch fest. I took some of the spaghetti I rolled out yesterday and tossed that with some lamb meatballs I had lingering in the fridge. I made a touch of sauce to coat the pasta but it was pretty light. Mostly onions, garlic, carrots, oregano and a little tomato paste and white wine. Put all of that together with a salad. Light but filling. More strawberry sorbet for dessert.

This afternoon I made the custard base for silk road ice cream. I think we will churn that tomorrow. (another activity to do with short people.)

A quick glance in the garden shows that the pea patch is growing fiercely. There are so many pods and things are getting taller everyday. I am doing my best to keep guiding the things up the trellis I built. Soon it will be snack time al fresco for the kids. "Hungry? Go into the garden." I pulled an onion out of the garden today. I will have to find a way to put it to use tomorrow. It smells good.

I am attempting to bring my old food LJ back to life. Here I share my recipe for smug muffins.
