I canned jam today. I made raspberry jam and aprium jam. It was so tempting to look for something else to preserve. I love the whole ritual of preserving things. The fruit looks so vivid and electric right now. I love looking at the cupboard shelves as they grow full of things.
I went and bought meat today from a couple of places. I took my son with me. It was a good lesson in learning what things are. I pointed out the tongue, the rabbit, the chicken, the lamb and so on. Then he and I went to a book shop to look for some things to send his cousins for their birthday. He ended up coming home with a book as well. It is a damn Curious George book but he likes it and he picked it out. My Mother never forbade me to read anything and I am inclined to take the same direction. Though my Mom did make the occasional sarcastic remark about some of my reading choices but that is fair. You have to have your fun as a parent. The only downside is that at the age of nine, Babysitter Club books were my heroin addiction. But I got over it. I am sending the twins distinctly American books that I think will be fun to read over the years. I will be sending them, "Sheep in a Jeep", "Paper Bag Princess", "Ferdinand the Bull" and "The Little House." Some newer things, some classic things and all good for kids.
The rest of the afternoon has been spent in a state of mild annoyance. Two of the neighbor's dogs got out -twice. I don't mind them coming into our garden (because they are pretty sweet little dogs) but I worry about them getting into the street and getting hurt. They have a little scottie dog visiting or something and the little bugger does nothing but yap and yap. I want to go next door and say, "what's the deal?". We can't go out in our own garden without the dog having a fit and barking for a good half an hour.
But things are calm once again. Everyone just needed to calm down a bit.
The fireworks are getting old real quick. *grumble*
Okay so let's be happy for a moment. I have jam. My kids are pretty adorable and entertaining. I made hot fudge sauce and it is so good I want to marry it.
Now to look at books.
