I like a good historical biography; especially if you are titled in some fashion. And so I have a few books to get rid of and for the price of shipping them, I will give them to you. First come, first serve.
Victoria's Daughters as the title suggests it is about Queen Victoria's daughters. Their lives, what it was like growing up in that weirdo German hot-house environment and all the horrible children they begat which caused havoc all over Europe. And yes there is a center section with photos. I love a good bio with pictures. Taken
Georgiana: Duchess of Devonshire Imagine being married to a guy when you are young and OMG you are so into him and you think yeah he should be into you only he isn't. Kind of Princess Di-ish. If Princess Diana had a total fucking scary gambling habit, big hair, lots of lovers, and interest in politics, a love child, and a flair for dysfunction that would make most talk shows go, "OMG... this is too much." This lady was not dull. And her relationship with her husband and her BFF is interesting. Her BFF also had this long-term affair with Georgiana's husband. So I suppose you could describe them as being kind of modern with their poly arrangement. Only it wasn't that modern because it was the 18th century and people had scandals the way some people have flat-screen televisions. TAKEN
Strapless All about the painting Madame X, the subject, and the painter. Illuminating and again SCANDAL. French society is so peculiar and interesting.
Titled Americans Do you know who Jennie Jerome is? What? Who are you? That's what I thought. Jennie Jerome was an American and her Father made some cash and she was one of the first Americans to come over to England and marry a cash poor, title rich Englishman. She was a slightly rare bird in that she and her husband were initially really really into each other. (both were young good looking folk with a taste for teh sex.) She went on to give birth to Winston Churchill and be one of those titled ladies who had a good time in many ways. (Yes... people called Jenny who marry Englishmen go onto great things. Just saying.) Her life was also very sad. Her husband was a drunk with a case of the syph. She was CONSTANTLY hustling for cash because money wasn't always available but she still had fun. Her sisters also married titled guys but like her sister they spent much of their lives living in faux luxury (giving the appearance of having money) but owed SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many people money. You would think they were Greece. But with better dresses. TAKEN
Six Wives by David Starkey is all about the wives of King Henry the VIII. (it's a hardback edition so it is HEAVY) This book is catty and interesting. He spends MOST of his time on the first two wives -which makes some sense since their lives mingled for a good long time. I sorta get the impression that Starkey was team Anne. It also gets heavily into the reformation and what went down during all of that. It's big. It's epic. I hope you don't have carpal tunnel because this book will wear you down physically. Still a fun read (despite the author being so catty) TAKEN
So yeah, if you want, let me know. Gotta get this shit GONE.
