I really love eating with people. At least fun people. You know, my family, my friends. Today I did a lot of eating with my friends. I showed some friends where new-ish fun yarn shop is. (teeny tiny. Yes Mom I saw something I need to send to you. They have alpaca from their own herd. NUFF SAID) We walked a long one of the canals, and then assorted people met up in Padstow to see a twee-ish fishing village and eat food. For this is Rick Stein's tiny kingdom of seafood. We ate in the more affordable cafe. I brought along my daughter as she was off school. She is getting pretty good at traveling. We went to a bakery and bought a muffin and sat by the harbor and watched the birds. Friends began to arrive and we wandered.
There was a shop filled with assorted plush/stuffed animals, matroyshka, those high-end steiff bears, and all kinds of things. Including the rather discomforting gollywog dolls. I hope to GOD they were vintage. I know people of my parents generation had them and thought nothing of them but oy vey... My Mother in law spoke of having one, and she said that she really had no idea as a child about the complicated relationship people had to them. Obviously she wouldn't give one to her grandkids now, but it is one of those interesting signs of cultural change.
We went to Rick Stein's patisserie where many things were delicious. K. and R. had a lemon curd doughnut that was apparently one of the best things ever. Miss Biscuit spied pink macarons and said, "I NEEEEEEEEEEED those." So we bought a couple. She said they tasted pink and were delicious. It was raspberry and perfect in her eyes. It was pink. It was little. It tasted amazing. I ended up buying a few more of different flavors and they were pretty great. I also bought a smoked haddock pasty. It was excellent. The only downside is that I have been burping smoked haddock all day. Not a bad-tasting thing but certainly alarming at times. We admired all the lovely shops, the architecture, and then everyone found one another and we gave Rick Stein more of our money by eating in his cafe. The interior was very cozy and very pink so it was deemed by Miss Biscuit an attractive place. Some had seafood, some didn't. Most of us tried the lemon cordial mixed with sparkling water. Kind of a subtle cloudy lemonade. Not filled with a ton of flavor but still satisfying. I had a BLT. I know I know the man is known for seafood but I wanted some bacon. It tasted good but it fell apart too easily. The lettuce was shredded and combined with the dressing and that was the weakest part. The bacon was fantastic. I liked the bread, but still... I shouldn't require a fork. Miss Biscuit stuck to her favorite: chips, ketchup, and a glass of milk. We are still working on her eating habits. We get her to eat carrots and fruit so she won't get rickets or something. It should be noted that she got a curly-wurly straw. Always a plus when you are small. (or big) Mackerel, moules, and tarts were tried. People were quiet as they ate, so it was being taken in. Good conversation and happy food. We had to take off a bit early so I could drive all the way back home and get Senor Onion from school. I had to stop for gas and was caught behind two tractors, but I made it with a minute to spare. But because I had to walk two whole minutes up to his school, he was put out that I wasn't there waiting for him. Oh chil'e. He perked up when he got a macaron.

I made pancakes and bacon for dinner for my family. Lots of good conversation with them. About school, Portal, Forest school, (they saw tadpoles today. Senor Onion said they weren't that interesting to look at.) whether free academies are good or questionable, what is wrong with education in England, what we did today, and the roast chicken for school dinner. And the color pink.
Once children were put to bed, I met up with friends once again at my pub, as the food is good, the drinks are tasty, and because it is a cozy place that I love. And it isn't every day that a person gets to eat in a 13th century free house. I will MAKE you have a full English experience. I will DO my bit for Cornish tourism.
Again more good conversation with people I like a lot. Lots of good/big eating, and enjoying of a happy moment. All the beautiful things in this part of the world. Cheerful people, adorable dogs, a warm fire, the drunk at the bar, the variety of things to drink, and a whole lotta history. I am stuffed but not in pain. I will definitely miss my friends when they are gone, but I feel lucky I could show them this place that matters.

Tomorrow? more food. More fun. More things to see that not everyone gets to see.
