Sunday we met up with my brother in law and his family at The Big Sheep. A sheep-themed park. Yes. All the sheepy goodness you could possibly want. You can buy a bag of feed and feed some of the animals there. We walked across the quaint bridges to look at some pygmy goats and feed them in their little area. (which was almost like a jungle gym for them.) Then we wandered around. Everyone minus Miss Biscuit wanted to go on the swan pedalo. She looked at everything and then saw the miniature train going around the pond and said, "I want to go on a train." Mr. Jenner went off with Senor Onion to go on the swan ride (later he said it was a lot of work to keep pedalling and was very exhausting.) along with the other Jenners. Miss Biscuit and I cross the stream yet again and wandered into a building that was near the miniature train station. That building had a bunch of farm animals to pet and in some cases you could feed them. We were distracted by this for a bit. Baby lambs!!! (including some that had just been born. How long ago? Well the Ewe had the afterbirth hanging out, the lambs were kind of bloody and unsteady on their feet, and everyone looked a little confused. There were loads of sheep to feed, a pen with three little pigs, another with fat ponies, another place with PUPPIES!!!! Plus there were bunnies and chickens, and calves. The calves were not shy. They kept licking everyone and begging for ear scritches. Fine fine fine adorable baby animal I will scratch your ears and pet you and let you lick me. Then we got onto the train. It was a nice slow ride around the pond. We saw the three little pigs homes, Humpty Dumpty, Little Bo Peep, and.........what appeared to be a combat area for those who like to play war. I am serious people. I kid you not. There was this area for people with laser guns or something and they had a fucking tank, sand bags, what appeared to be a downed helicopter and you had kids and grown-ups in camo running around. So hey this place has everything. We saw assorted Jenners on the pond in their pedalo swans, and then we came back around to Ewe-ston station. OH THE PUNS.
Then we looked at the animals some more. There was an area with these horse riding toys which entertained Miss Biscuit until everyone else showed up to do the rounds with the animals. OMG PUPPIES!!! OMG SHEEP!!!! PLEASE CAN I HAVE A PONY??? THEN we all went on the train. Again. For good measure. We wandered up to the big bouncy pillows. (one more suitable for older kids and one that is gentle for little kids.) The kids went off on those and up to the go-karts while grown-ups sorted out lunch. Children ate here and there and then we spotted the pony rides.
OH MAH GAWD PONY RIDES. Miss Biscuit went one over a year ago but I don't think she really remembered it. But she saw the ponies and said, "I am going to ride that little one." When the pony rides re-opened we got in line. For 1.50 you get a go around the ring (lead by some nice folk) AND a little rosette for your effort. She was incredibly serious and shy about preparing. It was a holy occasion and she wasn't quite sure it was really real. It was when she got off the tiny pony that she skipped over and said, "I WENT ON A HORSE HER NAME IS ROSIE" Since then she has been bringing this up to anyone who will listen. I was reading her a book last night that mentioned horse-riding and she pointed to the picture and said, "I did that you know!" Ponies. They happened. She's an expert rider now. (my nieces also had their first pony ride. I think it was a real treat for all three.)
Senor Onion and my niece had a lot of fun together on the karts. It's a good situation for them since they both just sisters and E. can play the heroic big brother role and Senor Onion is the adoring little brother in this situation. (E. is 12 but very sweet with the crowd of younger cousins and siblings) Then they went off to the soft-play area. (again there is an area for the more bold sorts and one are for the mild-mannered little kids.) It has a café and it's indoors so if it is raining the day isn't a bust. It was a bright hot day out, but it must have been nice to spend some time running around like crazy. Then we went on a tractor ride around the farm. There are Jacob sheep, fat ponies, cows, llamas, and pigs. The man giving the tour made a lot of bad jokes. While in line for the tractor ride we ran into a co-worker of Mr. Jenner's who is down in the area on holiday. (He lives up in Bristol with his family.) So it was nice to say hi and all of that. The ride was bumpy, silly, and kept the children amused. Everyone was looking a little worn after a great deal of energy spent running around like crazies. Yes it was time for ice cream. We sat in the shade with our cones and remarked that it had been a lovely day. We hadn't gotten to everything but that was all right. (you can go on a tractor train ride where vehicles are shaped like pigs, there are sheep-dog trials, you can watch sheep being sheered, and there are duck trials, and swings, and a few other rides for kids.) Then the kids put in their one pound coins to ride this one tractor track. They are little cars and you push the pedal and just go around a couple of times. Everyone was pretty happy and Miss Biscuit did a rather good job considering she was fairly small and had never been on one before. It was reaching that point where it was time to go home and have tea, and a bit of shade.
A pretty reasonable Sunday out.

...
It is raining tonight but that is all right, gives the air a bit of a cleaning after all the sun we have been having.

Because of convoluted family connections, I am going to attend Wimbledon at the end of the month with my Mother in law. It was an opportunity that fell into my lap and I thought, "what the heck, it isn't often you get a chance like this." So that should be an adventure. It will come a few days after Mr. Jenner and I drive across the country to attend a wedding. So I will come back for a few days, then drive back again. Though I won't have time to stop and see friends, it is kind of nice to get out of the west country now and then.
