baking, living, watching
Aug. 24th, 2013 12:02 amI dragged the children out with me, as I had a few errands to run. I hit up the atm, we picked out a birthday gift for yet another birthday party Senor Onion will be attending next week. It is one of his dearest friends. This child likes star wars, star wars lego, and minecraft. We found the child a star wars lego sticker book, as I like his Mother and don't want to make her live with a lot of tat as they live in a tiny cottage. I also picked up some birthday cards because in the next few weeks, we have eighty million birthdays being thrust upon us in the family. People like fucking in December. This is a fact.
We attempted to do a little shoe shopping but it was a failure. I should know better to go into that one shoe shop. They never have sizes we desire. That is one of those moments when I feel a lack of patience for life in the sticks. But all is well, we went to the bakery instead to pick up bread, and treats. I like that bakery so damn much. I got a raspberry apple Danish that I devoured in two seconds. Then we braved the grocery store on a Friday just before a Bank Holiday weekend. Got in and out. Miss Biscuit was kind of being difficult but we did it. She and I are trying to work through this... time. She requires extra patience from me. I may not always have it but I am trying like crazy because she obviously needs it.
The rest of the day we spent hiding at home. The weather was a mess, but the kids entertained themselves, I attempted to tidy up the house. (hit and miss. The kitchen was less horrifying, some laundry was done but the bedrooms may require fire-bombs and sage.)
But while the kids played I also made Nanaimo bars. I had had a serious craving for awhile but it required first making graham crackers before getting to this point. I made them, I share a square with Mr. Jenner and then I was satisfied, so now I need to pass them around the family. "here, eat a great deal of sugar." This is the grand truth about half the baking I do. I get worked up and want to spend all the time/effort on something and then I have a slice/piece or two and I want to move onto the next desire. I bet everyone would eat this on Sunday. Thank God for extended family.
We got Netflix again, it's been a year or two since we had it. This means we are watching, "Orange is the New Black" and I also watch any old movies I can find. Pretty much anything made before 1965. The other night I watched "Wings". It was a good reminder of how damn amazing Clara Bow was in front of the camera. People know about her as being a sex symbol, but when it comes to the display of human emotion/reaction, people forget that. You can see why she was something else. She bared all this open vulnerability and it obviously created immediate sympathy with audiences. Not that she needed protecting but it was more about rooting for her.
Bath and books that is the next task.
