houses houses houses
Jan. 31st, 2014 03:05 pmMy husband's family were total bosses. Both of his brothers showed up with their vans. My Father in law showed up with his station wagon. My brother in law's girlfriend came along. (she is pretty awesome.) They just went at it like mad people. BAM BAM LET'S MOVE THIS AND THIS AND THAT AND WE WILL MOVE THAT AND WE CAN FIT EVERYTHING IN THE VAN! (I was still packing when they arrived. I am going to plan that better next time. Pro-tip: don't mess your back up prior to a move.) It was a little overwhelming. "hey...oh you are moving everything. Okay." I dropped the kids off at their Nana's for the day. I rushed back and damn a good portion of the house was already gone. I made my way over to the new house. The present house if you will. IT WAS FILLED WITH STUFF. HOLY CHRIST! I got to be overwhelmed there. "how the hell am I going to put the house together? What have I done. I want my Mom." My Mom (who has done more last minute moves than she cares to mention,) is the best person in this kind of situation. At least I believe she is. She would have stood in the kitchen with me, and told me hilarious stories, and help me find the sugar. But I did it. I began to move things, and unpack things, and formulate a plan.
My husband and the other Jenner men (and K. the ever awesome gf) returned and brought beds and moved them up the wack-a-doo stairs and THEN put the beds together. These guys have a lot of tools and can build/fix things. I fed them all tea and biscuits. They brought more stuff. I gave them beer and money as a fabulous door prize. We went to pick up the kids and my Mother in law fed us. Bless that lady. It was some kind of pasta bake and I ate it like I had not eaten in days. Then she gave us cake and ice cream. This is a good woman.
We came home, put the kids to bed, and Mr. Jenner figured out the television. The living room was filled with stuff but we made a little area to watch tv and eat sweets. OKAY HOUSE IS HAPPENING.
Yesterday we had to go back to the old house and clean the hell out of it. The last month the house-keeping went down the hill as we were in survival mode. And then prior to that we were out of the country and well I felt a great deal of shame about my house-keeping skills as I was getting rid of all of the grime and dirt. I don't need to be Mormon Mommy perfect with my house-keeping but dang, I have to up my skills again. New house, new dreams.
Something about deep-cleaning that house until it hurt was a good way to say, "house I am done with you." (plus the god damn landlord's inventory required that the house be in immaculate condition. FAWK I hate this man that I have never met.) I returned home, (Mr. Jenner went off to work at his parents' place as it had reliable internet) and I began to tackle more boxes and chaos. I have moments where I think that I have accomplished something and then I see more crap. It will be like this for awhile. Children you must go to school on Monday so that I might deal with the dining room which looks a bit hoarder-ish. Mr. Jenner gave me a call at tea time. He spoke with our real estate agent in Seattle. Wednesday was the day that offers could be made on the house. Several had come in, and she discussed each offer, and we accepted one. We were quite surprised and pleased with the news. We celebrated the good news and moving into the house by going to the pub for dinner. Again that long day of labour made the food extra delicious. We had a lot to think over. Houses. We came home and had a fire, put the children to bed, and put together the living room. At least the living room for now. We have a kitchen, we have a living room, and beds. We are all right. I made brownies, and then watched Weekly Wipe. A bit of civility.
Today we finished up the cleaning, handed over the keys, and said, "thanks for the house. We'll enjoy this new one."
Then we bought kindling, bread, and cheese.
Family will be coming over for tea and to admire the "character" of the house. We don't have the oldest house in the family. That honor belongs to my youngest brother in law. He wins by a couple hundred years.
Hey, let me finish unpacking and then everyone can come and visit.
