christ, what an asshole
May. 15th, 2014 04:02 pmApparently it is time for a return of that one school yard Dad. I thought things were all right. I didn't really engage and he backed off. Then today he had to show off his mad skills. Everyone was sitting outside the gate. It is a gorgeous day, little kids are running around, and everyone's chatting. I had been talking to a Mom about who the new reception/year one teacher might be, what it's like once you have all the kids off at school, blah blah and so on. Someone brought up the cowgal from Toy Story and someone couldn't remember the name, and School Yard Dad asked us, and I said, "Jessie. Also my daughter's part-time persona." Anyone who has seen my daughter over the last year will know this about her. She often wears a cowboy hat, refers to herself as Jessie, and often has Woody with her. He gets this look in his eyes and says, "Your part-time persona? Well well well... guess I will have to get your number so we can meet sometime. I bet you're fun." I looked at him and said, "nonononono...ick." And he does that dumb laugh. And the other Mothers groaned. He tried to save the situation by saying, "Just saying stuff for comedic value." to which another Mother said loudly, "Don't laugh. It will just encourage him." I replied, "Trust me. I won't."
It was just so corny and lame and kinda icky because he kept going on about it for a couple of minutes. His wife was standing there. I felt really embarrassed by the whole moment, so I turned my back and concentrated on talking to my daughter.
WHY DUDE!?!?!?! Why take a perfectly nice moment and get gross with it. WHY do that in front of your wife who everyone feels bad for. WHY make me feel uncomfortable.
And if anyone ever said, "what the hell dude" I bet he wouldn't get it. I think I will stick to the stock answer, "That's really inappropriate." Because that might be the only thing to shut him down, short of hitting him with a large stick.
