We've run into a bit of a hiccup with the house-buying situation. We paid someone (who was legitimate and seemed very above board) to do the house survey thing. And they haven't gotten back to us despite having done it a couple of weeks ago. This person hasn't returned calls or answered the phone, so things seem a bit hinky. (especially since we paid him.) Mr. Jenner called him from my phone today, left a message saying, "You need to resolve this or we will be contacting certain authorities within twenty-four hours." Mr. Jenner did call the sellers to make sure the home survey man did in fact show up. (he did, and they said he seemed a bit... off.) Oof. Oh well, if we have to go and bury someone on the moors, so be it. It just sets things back a bit if we have to find someone else. But hey, this is how it works. Incompetence and shifty ethics are the cornerstone of the British property buying experience.

Halloween was quite nice. The cousins came over and played. I made pizza for everyone, and then we went trick-or-treating. It isn't as intense or as heavy an experience as it is in the US, where a child GETS a lot of candy, but the kids enjoyed themselves. I look forward to being back in that neighborhood again. (good opportunities to decorate at the holidays.) I had another informative chat with my sister in law, where all things related to the family are illuminated upon. Always serve tea and biscuits to your guests and they will get talking.

On Sunday we went to my inlaws for lunch. It was just us and them and quite nice. Miss Biscuit did a bit of bird-watching with her grand-dad, I played table tennis with Senor Onion, and a few more things were gone through in preparation for THE MOVE. I was talking to my Mother in law, and this is a woman who is ready to be done with the business, and she said that all that is left to do is pack. (they are having their home survey done today.) And there are things that she would normally be doing in preparation for coming season but she thinks, "NOPE, not my problem." I asked if and when she moves into her next house that she might spend the first year just hanging out, and she said, "no, we are going to take trips and do things." I don't know how my father in law feels about this. I joked with Mr. Jenner that his Mum would say, "Come on Mike, we're going out." And he would try and protest about wanting to sit and lounge and he would then find himself in Bora Bora or wherever because she had a hankering to see the sights.

Today is the last day of half-term. The kids are building forts. Miss Biscuit and I did crafty gluing things this morning, and now the kids are looking at comics in their forts. Senor Onion is pretty good at building/organizing efforts such as this.

I am sorting out things for his birthday. My clever, crazy, hilarious baby boy is going to be eight in less than a month. He is at such a fun age, and there is that part of me (when he isn't being so stubborn and well... like me in certain moments.) that I think, "Can't I just keep you forever?" I love watching him grow and change. Thankfully he still requires plenty of hugs and cuddles.
